Alice M. Loatman ~1935-1988

1. Obituary: Alice M. Loatman, 53, of Main Street, Greenwich died suddenly Friday afternoon due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Upper Deerfield Township.

Born in Greenwich, the daughter of the late Oscar Sr. and Alice Pierce Loatman, she had resided in Greenwich all her life.  She attended Greenwich Public School and was a 1953 Graduate of Bridgeton High a, bun! She was employed as a secretary with Seabrook Brothers and Sons and had been with the Seabrook Company for 22 years.

 Surviving are four brothers, Oscar Loatman Jr. of Dover, Del., Henry Loatman Sr. of Hopewell Township, Kenneth Loatman of Greenwich and Russell Loatman of Elmer; three sisters, Sara L. Durham of Greenwich, Lena Durham of California and  Mrs. Leonard (Marion) Davis of Pennsville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road (Route 49), Salem, with the Rev. McKenzie, retired Nazarene minister, officiating.  Interment will be made in Overlook cemetery.   Friends will he received prior to the services Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

2.  Death Notice:  LOATMAN -- Of Main Street, Greenwich, N.J., suddenly on Friday, June 24, 1988.  Alice M. Loatman, daughter of the late Oscar  and Alice Pierce Loatman Sr., sister of Oscar Loatman Jr., Henry Loatman Sr., Kenneth Loatman, Russell Loatman, Sara L. Durham, Lena Durham and Marion Davis, aged 53 years.

Relatives and friends are invited without further notice to attend funeral services on Wednesday morning, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. from the Russell C. Andrea Jean Loatman ~1980-1999

Andrea Jean Loatman of Marydel, formerly of Barclay, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999. She was 19.

Ms. Loatman had attended the Sudlersville (Md.) Elementary and Middle schools. She had worked for eight months for the Sudlersville Deli in Sudlersville. Ms. Loatman was very active in sports. She was a beautiful and very-much-loved young lady who will be greatly missed by all. Ms. Loatman was a member of the JV soccer team and had recorded stats for the boys varsity lacrosse team attending Queen Anne's County (Md.) High School. She also was a member of the high school's choir and a member of the Solid Rock Church in Hartly for 14 years.

She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandmother, Dolly Loatman. She is survived by her father and stepmother, Donald and Debbie Loatman of Marydel; her mother and stepfather, Janet and Rusty Hewitt of Barclay, Md.; two sisters, Hilary Hewitt and Janette Hewitt, both of Barclay; a brother, Sean Loatman of South Carolina; three stepsisters, Wendy Hewitt and Heather Hewitt, both of Florida, and Carrie Wallace of Marydel; a stepbrother, Shane Wallace of Barclay, Md.; her maternal grandparents, Henry and Betty Lutton of Marydel and Betty L. Hewitt of Barclay, Md.; paternal grandparents, Donald and Betty Loatman of Dover; and paternal great-grandfather, Steve Loatman of Dover.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Church Hill Cemetery in Church Hill, Md.

 

 

Anna E. Roberts Loatman ~1907-1980

1.  Obituary:  Anna E. Loatman, 73, of RD 2, Barrett Run Road, died Sunday afternoon at her home after a long illness.   Mrs. Loatman was born  in Burlington County, the daughter of the late Richard and Sarah Pierce Roberts and was the wife of Eli Loatman.   Mr. and Mrs. Loatman would have observed their 55th anniversary Oct. 19.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Marion B.) Morris of Bridgeton and Mrs. Walter  (Betty) Dunham (sic) of Elmer;  seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a sister, Sadie Cuff of Bridgeton.

The Rev. Canon E. Higgons,  rector of the  St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church,  will conduct the service Wednesday at  11 a.m. from the Garrison-Sray Funeral Home, 43  Fayette St.  Interment will be in the  family plot at Broad Street Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening after 7.

2.  Death Notice:  LOATMAN  Of Barrett Run, RD 2, Bridgeton, on Sunday, October 5, 1980. Anna E. Loatman, wife of Eli Loatman and mother of Marion B. Morris and Betty Dunham (sic), aged 73 years.

Arthur Perman "Wolfman" Loatman

Arthur Perman "Wolfman" Loatman, 49, formerly of Bridgeton, died Saturday in Plattsburgh, N.Y.  He was a circus worker who traveled with the Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Surviving are his mother, Sarah E., of Bridgeton and his father, Clarence Pierce of Bridgeton, six children, Kristian of Bridgeton, Rashawn of Vineland and LaTonya, Arthur P. Jr., Michael Lee and Kari Lynn Agnew, all of Plattsburgh, eight brothers, Linwood, William, Morris and Thomas, all of Bridgeton, Leslie of New Brunswick, Canada, Edward of Somerdale, Donald Pierce of Vineland
and Donald Pierce of Millville, five sisters, Sarah Waters, Harriet Darrisaw, Adeline Dixon, Anna Steward and Lillian Mosley, all of Bridgeton, and four granddaughters.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Crusaders for Christ Church, Reeves Road, Bridgeton, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hopewell Township.  Arrangements are by the Wesley Funeral Home, Bridgeton.


 

Barbara Loatman ~1937-2006

Barbara Loatman, 69, of Millville died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 11. 2006. The result of injuries received in a car-truck accident on Route 40, Pilesgrove Township, SalemCounty. Her husband Hartley R. Loatman Sr. and daughter Tatum L. Loatman were also killed in the accident.   Barbara was born in Bridgeton and was the daughter of the late Edgar Brown Sr. and Carolyn Williams Brown. She had been a resident of Millville for 30 years and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton.

Retired for the past year, she had formerly been a self-employed day care provider for 20 years.   She loved bingo, playing cards and watching scary movies with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 9 children, Sadie A. Pierce-Harris, South Plainfield, Hartley R. Loatman Jr., Camden, Jeffrey Michael Loatman, Beaumont, Texas, Vicki L. Jones, Vineland, Karen Vera, Millville, Maxine J. Graham, Millville, Harlan F. Loatman, Millville, Rodney E. Loatman, Millville and Tanora S. Loatman, Millville; one sister, Dolores Jamison, Bridgeton and three brothers, Donald Brown Sr., Salem, Hartley “Mickey” Brown Sr., Bridgeton and George Brown Sr., Bridgeton; 43 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides her daughter Tatum, she was preceded in death by to other daughters, Wendy Loatman and Brenda Brown; a son Marcus Loatman; a sister, Geraldine Hitchins and two brothers, Williston Brown and Edgar Brown Jr.

Funeral services will be held in the Glory Tabernacle Church, Buckshutem Road, Fairfield Township, on Friday morning, Nov. 17, at 11 o¹clock.   Burial will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.

Barbara A. Gould Loatman ~1947-1997

1. Death Notice:  LOATMAN -- of 72 River Road, Bridgeton, N.J., unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16, 1997.  Barbara A. Loatman  (nee Gould), age 50 years, wife of David J. Loatman, Jr., and mother of Gloria M. Gould, Julia “Judy” Loatman, David J. “Davey” Loatman, III and Abijah “Jay” Loatman.

2.  Obituary: Barbara A. Loatman (nee Gould), 50, of Bridgeton died Sunday in the Cooper Medical Center, Camden.  She had been a hospital patient for one week.  Born in Bridgeton, daughter of the late Abijah and Bertha Hughes Gould, she was a homemaker who several years ago worked at a Vineland sewing factory.

 She was active as a volunteer at South Jersey Hospital — Bridgeton and was a member of the Stroke Support Group at the Newcomb Medical Center, Vineland. She was a member of the Nanticoke tribe of the Lenni Lenape Indians.

Surviving are her husband of 30 years, David J. Jr.; two daughters, Gloria M. Gould and Julia “Judy,” both of Bridgeton; two sons, David J. Davey Jr. of Bridgeton and Abijah “Jay” of Vineland; two sisters, Anna Gould of Bridgeton and Pauline DeShields of Carneys Point Township; three brothers, Nathan Gould of Baltimore, and Abijah “Butch” Gould and John Gould,” both of Bridgeton, and five grandchildren.     In addition to parents, she was predeceased by a daughter,  Cora Gould; a sister, Gladys Gould; and a granddaughter, Cora Gould.

The Rev. Nayada Clarke will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Gouldtown  Memorial Park, Fairfield Township.



Barry Lee Loatman ~1950-2000

Barry Lee Loatman, 50, of Bridgeton died Sunday in Camden after a lengthy illness.

Born in Bridgeton, son of the late J. Harold Loatman and Rebecca Loatman Wright, he lived in the Bridgeton area most of his life, graduating from Bridgeton High School in 1969. He was a handyman.

Also surviving are three daughters, Eva and Sharmaine of Bridgeton, and Simone of Hawaii; four brothers, Joseph, Frank, and Jerry, all of Bridgeton, and Hartley of Millville; four sisters, Lillie of Bridgeton, Alice of Newark, Jacqueline of California, and Eva of Salem; and three granddaughters. He was predeceased by two sisters, Hazel and Edith; and a brother, Ronald.

Services will be held past 1 p.m. Sunday at the Wesley Funeral Home, 17 S. Burlington Road, Bridgeton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township.

Brooke De-Shira Loatman  ~1989-2006

Brooke De-Shira Loatman, 17, Glassboro, NJ departed this life suddenly on November 14, 2006.   Brooke was born Oct. 8, 1989 to Rodney Ellis Loatman and Heather Marie Schmidt in Bridgeton, NJ.

She was a junior at Glassboro High School and full-time cashier at McDonalds in Glassboro for approximately 6 months.   She was a member of Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall of Glassboro, NJ, where she became an Un-baptized Publisher in October 2006, she was very active in witnessing to others, her goal was to be Baptized.

She leaves to cherish her memories her father, Mr. Rodney Loatman; mother, Mrs. Heather Williams; step-father, Leonard Williams; six sisters: Ashley, Demi, Chelsea, Amaya, Ananda, and Kandyce; brother, Korey; grandmother, Ms. Robin Reichert; grandfather, Rudolph Law; step-grandmothers, Reva Harden and Theresa Hamilton; twelve aunts, ten uncles, a host of cousins and friends, especially Ronnell Williams and Letecia Rogers.   She is pre-deceased by her paternal grandparents, Hartley and Barbara Loatman; her maternal grandfather, Alfred J. Harden, Jr.; three aunts: Tatum Loatman, Wendy Loatman, and Brenda Loatman; and uncle, Mark Loatman.

Teen fifth victim of Rte. 40 crash
Wednesday, November 15, 2006

CAMDEN A Glassboro girl injured in a weekend accident in Salem County that killed three of her family members and a fourth person died in the hospital Tuesday, state police said.

Brook Loatman, 17, died at Cooper University Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, according to State Police Capt. Al Della Fave.

The accident occurred at 11:20 a.m. Saturday in Pilesgrove Township when a pickup truck driver passed several vehicles on U.S. Route 40 in a no-passing zone partially obscured by a hill, police said.

The pickup truck driver, identified as Richard A. Carrelli, 40, of Buena sideswiped a vehicle, causing a three-vehicle collision that killed Loatman's three family members and himself, police said.

Declared dead at the scene were Tatum Loatman, 27; Barbara Loatman, 69; and Hartly Loatman, 75 all of Millville and Carrelli, according to police.

Imon Loatman, 14, and Harlon Loatman, 13, both of Millville, were listed in critical condition and airlifted to the Cooper Medical Center in Camden, police said.

They remained hospitalized Tuesday, authorities said.

Kelly Bonselaar, 22, of Elmer sustained minor injuries, police said.



Cecil “Butch” Franklin Loatman

Cecil “Butch” Franklin Loatman, 38, of Philadelphia, died Friday in Philadelphia.  Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of Harriett (Loatman) Darrisaw of Bridgeton and Cecil Upshur of Port Norris.  He was a resident of Bridgeton for two years.  A 1972 graduate of Bridgeton High School, he attended Glassboro State College for 2 years.  He was discharged in 1981 from the U.S. Air Fore with the rank of sergeant E-4 and was a former postal worker, having worked in Brigantine and Bridgeton.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Aaron of Champaign, Ill.; three sisters, Pauline Hinson and Jeri Darrisaw of Bridgeton and Myra Robinson of Fayetteville, NC; his maternal grandmother, Sarah Loatrnan of Bridgeton; and his paternal grandmother, Ruth Williams of Vineland.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Baltimore Ave, Bridgeton, with the Rev. Matthew Brown officiating.  Interment will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Bridgeton.  Friends will be received one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Edwards and Son Funeral Home of Salem.



David G. Loatman Sr. ~1919-1986

1.  Obituary: David G. Loatman Sr., 67, of Reeves Road, RD 7 died Wednesday at his borne.  He had been in failing health for the past 29 years.

Born in Hopewell Township, the son of the late Jerry M. and Julia Forman Loatman, he was the husband of the late Thelma Ridgeway Loatman.  He had lived at his present address for 26 years and had been a lifetime resident of the Bridgeton area.

Prior to his retirement 29 years ago, due to disability, he had been employed as a serviceman with Goldberg Furniture Co. Prior to that he was employed with Seabrook Farms and the DuPont Co.  Mr. Loatman was a member of Forty Stag Deer Club and the Back Neck Gunning Club.

Surviving are four sons, David G. Loatman Jr., Harrison S. Loatman and Lewis Loatman, all of Bridgeton, and Edward Loatman of Millsville; three daughters, Carole Kennedy of Orlando, Fla., and Julia E. Figueroa and Thelma Gonzalez, both of Bridgeton; a sister, Mary D. Loatman of Bridgeton;  22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Mary Pearce, of Bridgeton.

Services will he conducted by the Rev. Nyada Clarke on Monday at 1 p.m. from  St. .John’s United Methodist Church, Fordville.  Interment will be made at Gouldtown Memorial Park.  Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Padgett Funeral Home, State Highway 77, Carlls Corner.

Serving as pallbearers were William Carney, Norman T.  Ridgeway, David F. Gonzalez, Domingo Gonzalez, Herman Willingham, Frank Carrasquillo, Louis Roman and Fred Pierce. The interment was made at Gouldtown Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home.



David J. Loatman Jr. ~1940-1997

1.  Obituary: David J. Loatman Jr., 57, of Hopewell Township died Friday in Allegheny University, Hahneman Medical Center, Philadelphia, following complications from open heart surgery. Born in Bridgeton, son of the late David J. Sr. and Thelma Ridgeway Loatman, he was a plumber for over 30 years at A.J. Petrunis Plumbing and Heating in Bridgeton before retiring on a disability in 1991.

He was a member of the Nanticoke Tribe of the Lenni-Lenape Indians and the Stroke Support Group at the Newcomb Medical Center, Vineland. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the former Back Neck Gun Club. He had been a volunteer at South Jersey Hospital — Bridgeton for several years.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria M. Gould and Julia “Judy,” both of Bridgeton; two sons, David J. “Davey” III of Bridgeton and Abijah “Jay” of Vineland; three sisters, Carol Kennedy and Themla (sic) “Peachie” Gonzalez, both of Florida and Julia “Judy” Figeroa of North Carolina; two brothers, Louis of Florida and Eddie of Millville; and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara A. (nee Gould), who died three weeks ago, a brother, Harrison, and a granddaughter, Ramona Willis in 1997.

Denise Rivera Loatman

Dennis A. Loatman Sr. ~1948-2014

Dennis A. Loatman Sr. age 66, of Granada Hills, CA passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his home.

Dennis is survived by his son Dennis A. Loatman, Jr. and wife Florencia of Victorville CA, his daughter Deanna C. Loatman of West Hills, CA, three grandchildren, Austin and Lenora Loatman, and Layla Taylor, all of CA. Dennis is also survived by his mother and step-father Florence L Seeney and Ronald C Seeney of Salem, brothers and sisters, Marcia Ledford (Paul), Darryl Loatman (Annette), Martin Loatman, Michelle Fisher (Albert) and Dwayne Seeney (Jody), several nieces and nephews, his Aunt Elsie Webster, and his dog Muggsy. Dennis was predeceased by his father Daniel Jackson Jr. of CA.

Prior to relocating to CA, Dennis and family made their home in Deepwater NJ where he was a pipefitter. Once relocating to CA, Dennis worked for the LA Times as a transporter until his retirement. Dennis loved various genres of music; however his children fondly remember country music as his favorite and his voice sounding like gold while singing along to Pancho and Lefty. He loved wrestling and collecting cars; most recently his corvette and camaro.

Edgar "Lone Wolf" "Sonny" Loatman   ~1943-2013

Edgar "Lone Wolf" "Sonny" Loatman  69, of Upper Deerfield Twp. passed away on Tuesday morning January 8, 2013 in South Jersey Healthcare Hospice Care Inpatient Unit, Bridgeton, after an extended illness. Born in Fairfield Twp. he was the son of the late Sherman and Velma (nee Mosley) Loatman and the husband of Roberta "Birdie" (nee Christopher) Loatman.

Sonny had been an Upper Deerfield Twp. resident for the past five years and had previously lived in Greenwich and Stow Creek. Sonny grew up in the Stathems Neck area of Greenwich on a farm he worked with his late father. He enjoyed hunting and working in his yard. He was known for the exceptional care he gave to all of his vehicles and his immaculate combine that he once owned. He was lastly employed until his retirement in 2008 with the NJ State Department of Corrections as a truck driver, and prior to, had been employed with Major Petroleum as a tanker driver for 17 years. He loved the Greenwich area and had fond memories of times spent at Woodchoppers Hall. Two of his favorite hobbies were playing darts and horseshoes, and was always ready for a good challenge in either from anyone. He enjoyed life, and adored his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Roberta, his two children Martin P. Loatman of Hopewell Twp., and Lori L. Loatman of Shiloh and his step daughter Tina Martin of Elmer, his two sisters Mary Anna Ledden and her husband Harry of Greenwich, and Beverly Dickenson of Upper Deerfield Twp., two grandchildren Alissa Hope Loatman ,Alexis N. Martin, several nieces, nephews, cousins and various relatives. He was predeceased besides his parents by two brothers Kenneth Ridgway, and Gary Loatman, and his sister Dorcas Reed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. from the Sray-Webster Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. The interment will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Sonny's memory be made to SJH Hospice Care, Fenwick Plaza 223 Broadway, Salem, NJ 08072. Edith Durham Loatman ~1930-1995

1.  Obituary: Edith Durham Loatman, 65, of Bridgeton, died suddenly Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden.

She was born in Greenwich, the daughter of the late Luther and Maud Loatman Durham, and was the wife of the late Russell Loatman, who passed away in 1990.  She had resided at her present address for the past five years and prior to that had resided in Elmer.

She had retired from the Bridgeton Onized Credit Union earlier this year.  She was a graduate of Bridgeton High School class of 1947 and was a very active member of the Bridgeton First Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are a son, Michael P. Loatman of Bridgeton; sisters Dorothy Burrell of Lower Alloways Creek, Maybelle Bordley of Bridgeton, Julia Durham and Jean Okonski both of California.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the First Church of the Nazarene, 350 West Park Drive, Bridgeton, with the Rev. Albert W. Shaw officiating.  Interment will be at Fernwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Bridgeton.  Friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.  If desired, contributions may he made to the American Cancer Society, Orchard Road and Landis Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Russell C. Eli “Uncle Buddy” Loatman Jr. ~1902-1987

1.  Obituary: Eli “Uncle Buddie” Loatman, 85, of Barrett Run Road, Hopewell Township died Monday evening in Bridgeton Hospital where he was patient 15 days. He had been in declining health the past year.

Born in Hopewell Township, the son of the late Eli Sr. and Annie Consealer Loatman, he was the husband of the late Anna Roberts Loatman, who died in 1980. A life time area resident, he had lived at his present address for 36 years.  Mr. Loatman was a self-employed farmer and had farmed his entire working life.  He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Marion B. Morris of Bridgeton and Betty M. Durham of Elmer; a sister Eulalie L Steward of Hopewell Township; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Burial Office will be read at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 186 E. Commerce St., with the Father Charles M. Johnson, assistant priest, serving as celebrant.  Interment will be made in Broad Street Cemetery.  Friends will be received from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Carll-Peterson-Ilacqua Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St.

Elizabeth  Ridgway Loatman 1913-1979

1.   Obituary: Elizabeth  Ridgway Loatman, 65, of 476 Oakview Heights, died early Wednesday morning in Bridgeton Hospital where she had been a patient the past week.  She had been seriously ill the past several years.

Born in Dover, Del, the daughter of the late Walter and Rhoda Palmer Ridgway; she was the wife of the late Leon Loatman who died in 1976.  Mrs. Loatman had been a machine operator at the M.C. Schrank Co., retiring in 1962 because of ill health.

Surviving are a son, Ernest R. Cuff of RD 2; a daughter Mrs. Russell (Evelyn) Lockman of Millville; two stepsons, Leon Loatman of California and Raymond Loatman of Bridgeton; four stepdaughters Bertha Rivera, Edith Williams and Elsie Webster, all of Bridgeton, and Florence Seeney of Salem; a brother, Carlton Ridgway of Hammonton; two  sisters, Mabel Reed of Seabrook and Alberta Pritchett of Delaware and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. V Gerritt  W. Florence Loretta Loatman ~1933-2009

Florence Loretta Loatman, 76, of Bridgeton, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at her residence Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Born in Newark, N.J., to the late William and Ola (Johnson) Young, she was formerly employed by Trump Castle Hotel and Casino and The Val Mode Co. 

Florence attended Glory Tabernacle Churchand True Vine Pentecostal Church, when her health allowed her to. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, and making people laugh. 

Florence leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Joseph H. Loatman III and Darryl "Poke" S. Loatman; three daughters, Deborah A. Loatman, Antranett "Toni" Sease (Robert), Colleen "Cindy" Loatman, James Young; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Florence was preceded in death by one brother, Fredrick Young; one sister, Dorothy Clark; one grandson; and one great-grandson. 

Services will be held Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Glory Tabernacle Church, Buckshutem Road, Bridgeton, N.J., at 11 a.m. where friends may view 2 hours prior to services. Frank H. Loatman, Sr ~1938-2006

Frank H. Loatman, Sr., 72, of Bridgeton, died at his home on Sunday, May 21, 2006, after a brief illness. The husband of the late Sylvia M. Loatman, who passed away in Sept. of 2001, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of Rebecca Mosley Wright of Salem and the late Harold Loatman. He had been a lifetime resident of Bridgeton.

Prior to his retirement seven years ago, he had been employed with Downe Township School and previous to that had been a driver for National Freight Co. in Vineland for several years and also with the former Cross Transportation Co. in Bridgeton for over 37 years. Frank was a member of the Nanticoke Lenne Lenape Indians.

Besides his mother, survivors include: one son, Frank Loatman Jr., Fairfield Township; 6 daughters, Brenda Barry and her husband Skip, Brookville, Md., Andre’ Gould and her husband Greg, Millville, Martha Gould and her husband Daryl, Fairfield Township, Penny Allen and her husband Mike, Lawrence Township, Sonya Slater and her husband Greg, Bridgeton and Sylvia Loatman-Omer and her husband Yousif, Bowie, Md.; 12 grandchildren, Tara Gould, Brook Monee’Goff, Kristen Kira Goff, Candi Nocole Gould, Peggy Ann Slater, John Barry III, Frank Loatman III, Meredith “Ducky” Gould, Jason Barry, Daryl “Stuffy” Gould Jr., Keith “Poohie” Goff Jr. and Sean D. Gould; 6 great grandchildren; Drew T. Harold L. Loatman ~1922-1988
(Written note:  This is Elvin’s brother; Tuesday 26, 1988.)

Harold L. Loatman, 66, of 294 South Ave. died Tuesday in Bridgeton Hospital.  A lifelong Bridgeton resident, he was the son of the late Linwood and Anna Hughes Loatman.

Mr. Loatman retired as a custodian from the Bridgeton Board of Education where he worked for 13 years.  He formerly attended King Memorial Church of Bridgeton.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth of Georgia and Douglas of Bridgeton; three daughters, Ruthie Sanders, Tracey Loatman and Valerie Loatman, all of Bridgeton; eight brothers, Sherman, James, Morris, William and Thomas, all of Bridgeton, Elvin of Springfield, Mass., Linwood of Los Angeles, Calif. and Douglas of Canada; five sisters, Lillian Mosley, Sarah Waters, Adline Dixon, Anna Steward and Harriett Darrisaw, all of Bridgeton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Lewis.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the Lively Funeral Home, 656 E. Commerce St.  Interment will be made in Gouldtown Memorial Park.  Friends will be received after noon Friday at the funeral home.

 

Harrison S. Loatman ~1928-1994

1.  Obituary: Harrison S. Loatman, 48, of 66 Hampton Street, Bridgeton died on Thursday Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where he had been a  patient for three days. He had been in failing health for 2l years.

Mr. Loatman was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late David G. Loatman Sr., and Thelma Ridgeway Loatman. The husband of the late Donna McIntosh Loatman, he had lived at his present address for two years and had been a lifetime Bridgeton resident.

Prior to being disabled 2½ years ago, he had been employed as a truck driver with Bradway Trucking Co. for nine years. Prior to that he had driven for Amusements of America for many years.  A veteran of the United States Army, he was an avid hunter, and was a member of the Back Neck Deer Club.

Survivors include one son, Harrison S. Loatman, Jr., of Bridgeton; one daughter, Tracy M. Loatman of Bridgeton; three brothers, David G. Loatman Jr. of Hopewell Township, Lewis Loatman of Maitland, Fla., and Edward W. Loatman of Vineland; three sisters, Carole M. Kennedy of Maitland, Fla., Julia E. Figueroa of Egg Harbor City, and Thelma D. Gonzalez of Bridgeton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. from St. John’s United Methodist Church, Fordville, with the Rev. Nyada Clark officiating. Burial will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Township.  Friends may call Sunday evening between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 Route 77, Bridgeton.

1.  Obituary:  Harry M. Loatman, 93,  of  Hopewell Township died Wednesday evening in West Jersey Hospital, Eastern Division, in Voorhees  Township, where he had been a patient one day.

Born in Hopewell Township, the son of the late Eli and Annie Consealor Loatman, he was the husband of the late Jessie H. Pierce Loatman.  A lifetime area resident, he had resided at his present address 50 years.

Mr. Loatman farmed his entire working life. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Trent and Louise Messina, a sister, Eulalie Steward, a brother, Eli Loatman, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hartley R. Loatman, Sr ~1931-2006

Hartley R. Loatman, Sr., 75, of Millville, died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006. The result of injuries received in at car-truck accident on Route 40 in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County. His wife Barbara Brown Loatman and daughter Tatum L. Loatman were also killed in the accident.   Hartley was born in Stow Creek Township and was the son of the late Joseph Harold Loatman and Rebecca Wright Loatman. He had been a resident of Millville for 30 years and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton.

He was a tractor-trailer driver and prior to retiring on disability he had been employed as a driver with National Freight Co. in Vineland for several years. He had also formerly worked at the Artificial Island.  He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Army. Hartley loved fishing.

Survivors include; 9 children, Sadie A. Pierce-Harris, South Plainfield, Hartley R. Loatmen Jr., Camden, Jeffrey Michael Loatman, Beaumont, Texas, Vicki L. Jones, Vineland, Karen Vera, Millville, Maxine J. Graham, Millville, Harlan F. Loatman, Millville, Rodney E. Loatman, Millville and Tanora S. Loatman, Millville, two brothers, Jerry Loatman, Hopewell Township and Joseph Loatman, Millville; four sisters, Lilly Loatman, Bridgeton, Alice Reese, Newark, Jacqueline McGill-Smith, Los Angeles, Cal. and Eva Caesar, Alloway Township; forty three grandchildren and a host of great and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Henry Loatman Sr.

Henry Loatman Sr., of Hopewell Township, died Friday in South Jersey Hospital-Bridgeton where he had been a patient for one day, following a brief illness. He was 80. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of late Oscar and Alice Loatman and the husband of Linda Pierce Loatman. He had lived at his present address for the past 52 years.

Mr. Loatman owned and operated a farm until retiring in 1987. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion 8hoemaker Post 95 of Bridgeton, and the Disabled American War Veterans. He enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Henry Jr. of Vineland; two brothers, Oscar Jr. of Dover, Del, and Kenneth of Greenwich; three sisters, Sara Durham of Greenwich, Lena Durham of California and Marion Davis of Pennsville; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild, He was predeceased by a brother, Russell, and a sister, Alice Loatman.

The Rev. Howard L. Cassaday WW II conduct services at 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road, Route 49, Salem, where friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton.



Hazel Pauline Loatman ~1930-2000

Hazel Pauline Loatman, 70, of Vineland died Friday in South Jersey Hospital-Newcomb.

Born in Hopewell Township, daughter of Rebecca Wright Loatman of Hopewell Township and the late J. Harold Loatman, she was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Loatman attended Hopewell Township and Bridgeton public schools.

She was a residential counselor for the Training School in Vineland until her retirement. Prior to her employment with the school, she worked for 15 years at the Cumberland Manor in Bridgeton. She served as shop steward for the UAW in Vineland.

In addition to her mother she is survived by four sons, William Loatman Sr. of Millville, Eugene Bard of Lawnside, Harry Bard of Salisbury, Md., and Keith Bard of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Jacquelyn Bard of Vineland; five brothers, Joseph, Franklin, Jerry and Barry Loatman, all of Bridgeton, and Hartley Loatman of Millville; four sisters, Lillie Loatman of Bridgeton, Alice Reese of Newark, Jacqueline Smith of California, Eva Ceasar of Salem; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Harold; a daughter, Barbara Bard; and a brother, Ronald Loatman.

Services are 1 p.m. Friday in New Life Outreach Church, Blue Bird Lane, Millville. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Hopewell Township, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Arrangements are by Edwards and Son Funeral Homes, Bridgeton and Salem.

 

Helen S. Durham Loatman 1917-1988

Helen S. Loatman, 80, of Dover, died of heart failure Wednesday at home. Mrs. Loatman was a homemaker. She was a member of Forest Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar S. Jr.; a son, Donald L. of Dover; five brothers, Allen Durham and Ralph Durham, both of Bridgeton, N.J., Jerry Durham of Fairton, N.J., Joseph Durham of Portland, Tenn., and Edward Durham of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Rosie Miller of Bridgeton and Rhoda Durham of Dover; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Sunday at noon in Forest Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kent Road 101, Dover, where friends may call Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Forest Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church Building Fund, Dover.

James A. Loatman Sr ~1951-2011

James A. "Chuck" Loatman Sr., 60, of Fairfield Township died at home Saturday, June 11, 2011 after a lengthy illness.  A lifelong area resident, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late James H. and Alice (nee Douglas) Gant Loatman. Mr. Loatman was the husband of Nancy S. (nee Hymer) Loatman and they had been married for 32 years. 

He attended Bridgeton High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  A member of Ironworkers Union #399, he received his training at the Gloucester County Vocational   Training School and worked as a high iron worker for several years. He later worked for PGI in Buena until becoming disabled.  Mr. Loatman was a member of the Lenni Lenape Indians and was a devoted grandfather. He was also a longtime Pittsburgh Steelers fan. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Amy Loatman of Millville, Grant Loatman, James A. "Chuckie" Loatman Jr. and Bradford Loatman, all at home; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Darlene Berrios of Lantana, Fla., Sandra Cuff of Port Lucie, Fla., Jacqueline Brown of Vineland and Gina Gant of Fairton; and one brother, Roger "Butch" Loatman of Bridgeton. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Victoria Loatman; and a brother, Samuel Loatman.

James H. Loatman ~1923-1991  

1.  Obituary: James H. Loatman, 68, of P.O. Box 1426, Millville, died Saturday evening upon arrival at South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division. He had been in failing health for six years.

Born in Greenwich, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Margaret Carney Loatman and the husband of the late Alice (Gant) Loatman who died in 1986. He resided at his present address nine years and was an area resident all his life.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in  the  European Theatre, he retired due to ill  health from B & C Trucking in Vineland.  He was a member of Teamsters Union 676.

He is survived by  two sons, James A. of Bridgeton and Roger B. Loatman of Millville; three daughters, Jacqueline Brown of Vineland, Darlene Berrioes of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Sandra Cuff of Williamstown; four sisters, Beatrice Munson of Bridgeton, Isabel Durham of Greenwich, and Anne Coker and Betty Durham of Dover, Del; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother John Loatman and a sister, Thelma Mosley.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road (Route 49), Salem. Interment will be in Fordville Cemetery. Friends will be received this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

James K. Loatman ~1918-1990

1.  Obituary: James K. Loatman, 72, of RD 4, Sayres Neck Road, died Tuesday afternoon in South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, where he was a patient for three weeks.  He had been in failing health for two years.

Born in Fairfield Township, the son of the late Linwood and Anna Hughes Loatman, he was the husband of Edna Reed Loatman.  A lifetime resident of this community, he lived at his present address for 37 years.

Prior to his retirement in 1988, he was employed by Husted’s Landing as an outboard motor mechanic for more than 40 years.  He was a member of the Cedarville United Methodist Church, and had formerly served on the Board of Deacons and at one time held the position of Sunday school superintendent.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara M. Coombs of Cedarville, Anna Marie Mosley of Abington, Pa., and Joan E. Pierce of Carmel; a son, Kenneth J. Loatman of Belleplain; two brothers, Sherman of Greenwich and Alvin of Springfield, Mass.; a sister, Lillian Mosley of Bridgeton; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Lewis and Richard.

Services will be held at 1 p.m.  Saturday from the Carll-Peterson-Ilacqua Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St., with the Rev. Ralph Barrett, pastor of the Cedarville United Methodist Church, officiating.  A Christian service will be held Friday evening at 8 in the funeral home with the Rev. Franklin Stanley, pastor of the Bridgeton Assembly of God, officiating.  Burial will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cedarville.  Friends will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Jessie H. Pierce Loatman ~1900-1968

1.  Obituary:  Jessie H. Loatman, 68, of Perry’s Lane, RD 2, died early Wednesday morning at Bridgeton Hospital where she had been a patient and seriously ill a week.   Born in Bridgeton, the daughter of the late Harry S. and Ella Stewart Pierce, Mrs. Loatman had been a lifetime  resident of the Bridgeton area and had resided at her present address 39 years.   She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Loatman is survived by her husband,  Harry M. Loatman; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Trent of Camden, and Mrs. Louise Messino of Camden; four brothers, Roy Pierce of Camden, Earl Pierce of Hawaii, Vernon Pierce of Bridgeton and Terrance Pierce of Bridgeton; one sister, Mrs. Dora Hughes, Bridgeton,  and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. E. Thomas Higgons Saturday morning  at 10 o’clock from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 184 East Commerce Street.  Interment will be at Fernwood Memorial Park.  Friends may call Friday evening between 7 and 9 o’clock at the Carll-Padgett Funeral Home, 208  East Commerce Street.

Joseph H. Loatman Jr.  ~1927-2006

Joseph H. “Poke” Loatman Jr., 79, of Bridgeton, died on Friday morning, Dec. 1, 2006. He had been in failing health for the past 6 months.   Born in Greenwich Township, he was the son of Rebecca Mosley Wright of Alloway Township and the late Joseph H. Loatman. The husband of Florence Young Loatman of Bridgeton, he had been a lifetime resident of Bridgeton.

Prior to his retirement, due to poor health, he had been a driver with the South State Co. in Fairfield Township for 31 years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany.  “Poke”” was a member of the American Legion, Shoemaker Post No. 95, in Bridgeton.

Besides his mother and wife, survivors include: six daughters, Carolyn Loatman, Florida City, Fla., Deborah Loatman, Bridgeton, Antranett “Toni” Sease, Bridgeton, Colleen “Cindy” Loatman, Atlantic City, Tammy Sapsai, Millville and Lorie Sutton Bridgeton; three sons, Joseph H. Loatman III, Vineland, Darryl Loatman, Bridgeton and Joseph Yearicks, Bridgeton; his companion of 33 years, Madeline “Ronnie” Yearicks, Bridgeton; one brother, Jerry Loatman, Hopewell Township; four sisters, Lilly Loatman, Bridgeton; Alice Reese, Newark, Jacqueline McGill-Smith, Los Angeles, Cal. and Eva Caesar, Alloway Township; thirty one grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Loatman Sr., Ronald Loatman, Barry Loatman and Hartley Loatman; two sisters, Edith Loatman and Hazel Loatman; two grandsons, Arian Loatman and Detrick Harris and a great grandson, Tyrone Loatman Jr.

Funeral services will be held in the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 7, at 1 o¹clock.
