Abijah P. Gould 1952-2003

Abijah "Butch" P. Gould, son of the late Abijah J. and Bertha M. Hughes Gould, departed this life Sunday, July 6, 2003 in the South Jersey Health Care Bridgeton Division. Abijah was born in Bridgeton on March 21, 1952.

He was a life long area resident and attended Bridgeton Public Schools. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and was employed by Fairfield Motors of Fairfield Twsp. He was a member of the Nanicoke Lenni Lenape Indian Center.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted friend and companion Dorothy F. Pierce, children Tonya Renee and Harry Sherman Pierce of Bridgeton, two sisters Anna M. Gould of Bridgeton, and Pauline H. DeShields of Carneys Pt., three brothers Nathan C. Gould of Balt., MD, John R. Gould, Sr. of Fairfield Twsp., and Frank Durham of Malaga, two grandchildren Jacobi and Jillian Mitzi Durham Pierce, nieces and nephews, Gloria Gould, Julia, David and Jay Loatman, Nathan Gould, Kimberly and Mark DeShields, John Gould, Jr. and Andrea Gray, surrogate parents Dave and Nancy Pierce, godson Jayson Dunn, great nieces, nephews & other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Thursday, July 10, at 11am in the Edwards and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 208 E. Commerce Street Bridgeton, with Pastor Nathan Dunn, eulogist and Pastor Nyada Clark, presiding. Albert Gould 1886-1964

Albert Gould, Sr., husband of the late Maggie Gould passed away Saturday morning at the age of 77 years. The deceased was the son of the late Clayton and Sarah Gould, born in Deerfield Township and had been a resident of Fairfield Township 33 years. He lived in Gouldtown on the Millville-Bridgeton Pike.

The deceased is survived by two sons, Sherwood of Carmel and Albert of Camden, on daughter, Mrs. Mary Lively, Gouldtown; a brother, Warren Gould; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from St. John Methodist Church, Fordville with the pastor, the Rev. William M. Tasco, officiating. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call this evening at the Lively Funeral Home, 85 South Pine Street, from 7 until 9 o’clock.

 


Albert Gould Jr. 1917-1991

Albert Gould Jr., 73, of 1462 Park Blvd., Camden, died Friday in Cooper Hospital - University Medical Center, Camden, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born in Fairfield Township, he was the husband of Frances Sye Gould and the son of the late Albert Sr. and Margaret Sammons Gould. He was a Camden resident for 38 years, moving there from Vineland.

A 1936 graduate of Bridgeton High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. He was employed for 27 years by the DuPont Co. prior to his retirement in 1979.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Donna Gould, Tammy Fletcher and Rhonda Harris of Camden; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, from the Chestnut Street U.A.M.E. Church, Camden, with the Rev. Dr. M. O. jones officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. Friends may call Wednesday two hours prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards and Son Funeral Home Inc. of Salem.

Bicyclist Killed By Car

An 83-year-old Bridgeton man died Wednesday of injuries be received after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Buckshutem Road, according to police.

Alfred Gould of Gould Avenue died about 6 p.m. from extensive head injuries following the noontime accident, according to police and officials at. Bridgeton Hospital, where he was taken by the Bridgeton Emergency Ambulance Association.

According to police, the victim was hit by a car driven by Johnnie Wright, 61, of Pleasant Avenue while both were heading east on Buckshutem Road between Florida Avenue and Burlington Road.

Police said Wright attempted to swerve around the pedalist and back into his own lane when another unidentified vehicle was coming in the opposite direction. According to reports, the victim struck the right side of the Wright vehicle and rolled across the hood,
shattering the windshield.

Local detectives were called to the scene to investigate the accident and police said this morning that the incident will be reviewed by the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed against the driver.

Ptl. James Stephenson issued Wright a summons for careless driving.

Mrs. Anna M. Gould, 85, wife of Luke Gould, died Tuesday evening at their home. Lower Mill Road, Elmer, where they had resided 13 years. She was the daughter of the late John and Anna B. Fischer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Murray, of Clark’s Pond Road, and Mrs. Anna Winton, of Brooklyn.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Garrison Funeral Home, 43 Fayette Street, at 2 o’clock. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 8 o’clock.

Bernard H. Gould 1932-2010

Bernard H. Gould, 78, died May 30, 2010, in New York City, where he had lived for many decades. He was born on May 8, 1932, in Atlantic City, the son of the late Jeanette Smith Sampson and Bernard Harry Gould.

Predeceasing him were sisters, June Gould Hersey and Vera Gould Gist; daughter, Karla; and his beloved wife, Victoria Carroll-Gould, who passed away on Dec. 12, 2008. Surviving Mr. Gould are son, Leo, of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughter, Amelia B.; and two grandchildren; Another surviving nephew, Charles Hersey (Khalil Karim) of Houston, Texas. His long-time neighbor and close family friend, Alexandra Hershberger and her husband, Robert, who managed his health care after his wife's death, of Astoria, N.Y. In the Atlantic City area, he is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral services will be held Noon, Friday, June 11, 2010, Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10 AM. Interment to follow in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville.

Branasia A. Gould, infant daughter of Brian K. Gould Jr. of Gouldtown and Danielle Ward of Bridgeton, died at birth on Thursday, September 16, 2004 in the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center, Vineland.

Besides her parents, survivors include paternal grandparents, Brian K. Gould Sr. of Gouldtown and Bernadette Brown of Fairton; and her maternal grandparents, Maria Ward of Bridgeton.

Graveside funeral services will be held in the Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. on Thursday afternoon, September 23 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow the services. Clara E. Gould ~1906-1985

1. Obituary: Clara E. Gould, 79, of Willis Road, RD 3 died Sunday afternoon at Bridgeton Hospital, where she had been a patient one day. She had been in failing health nine years and seriously ill three years.

Mrs. Gould was born in Dover, Del., the daughter of the late Walter and Eleanor Corney Durham and was the wife of Ferdinand K. Gould Sr., who died in 1982. The deceased was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Fordville, where she belonged to the Parsonage Committee and Women's Society.

Surviving are three sons, Ferdinand K. Gould Jr. of RD 3, Minous R. Gould of RD 7 and William K. Gould Sr, of RD 3; a daughter, Geraldine Gould Pierce of RD 2; seven foster children, Cheryl Gould, Lawrence Gould and Kevin Gould, all of RD 3, Wilson Capaldi of Newport, Crystal Pierce of RD 7 and Anna and Robert; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Minous W. Carney of RD 7 and V. Norman Carney of RD 2, and a sister, Nora Pierce of RD 1, Monroeville. Mrs. Gould was predeceased by a son, Joseph Gould, in 1984.

The Rev. Nyada Clarke of St. John's United Methodist Church, Fordville, and the Rev. Thomas McKelvey of the Church of God, Haleyville, will conduct the services on Wednesday at 1 pm. from St. John's United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Gouldtown Cemetery. Clyde “Bud” Gould, 54, who resided on the Bridgeton-Millville Pike, passed away Thursday afternoon in Bridgeton Hospital following an illness of four weeks. Mr. Gould was a life-long resident of the Bridgeton area and the husband of Bessie D. Gould. For many years he had been a truck driver with the LAN Transportation company.

Besides his wife, Mr. Gould is survived by one son, Lee A. Gould, Bridgeton; two sisters, Sussie Gould and Mrs. Carolyn Munson, Bridgeton, and three brothers, Oliver, Oscar and Felton Gould, all of Bridgeton.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from Trinity A.M.E. Church of Gouldtown with the Rev. W.G. Johnson in charge. Interment will be in Fordville Memorial Park. Friends may call at his late residence this evening from 7 to 9 o’clock.

Craig F. Gould, 71, a resident of 351 South East Avenue, died this morning in Bridgeton Hospital. He had been in failing health a number of years and seriously ill the past year.

Mr. Gould worked for a time for the Martin Dyeing & Finishing Corp. and for the past few years was employed by Burdsall – Boultinghouse Memorials.

The deceased was born in Bridgeton, the son of the late William C. and Elizabeth Pierce Gould.

Surviving are this wife, Maude; two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Wright, Buckshutem Road, and Mrs. Esther Crespo, New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Lytle and Mrs. Vandella Carney, and a brother Olin M. Gould, all of Bridgeton; five grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Samuel James, assisted by the Rev. Alexander White, on Thursday evening at 8 o'clock from the Garrison Funeral Home, 43 Fayette Street. Friends may call from 7 to 8 o'clock prior to the service.

Edith V. Gould, nee Reed, wife of James Gould, died in Bridgeton Hospital on Monday morning. She had been in failing health for several weeks and had been a patient at the hospital for the past week.

Born in Cheswold, Del, she was the daughter of John and Mamie Reed. In addition to her husband, father and mother, she is survived by one daughter, Sarah Durham, Bridgeton; three sisters, Gladys Valentine, Salem, Ola Ridgeway, Salem, Henrietta Reed, Bridgeton; two brothers, John A. Reed, Jr., Bridgeton; Francis Casper Reed, Sicklerville; one grandson and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Gouldtown Church with the Rev William G. Johnson in charge. The Interment will be made inn the Gouldtown Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday evening at the Wesley Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Emmaline Pierce Gould ~1927-2006

Emmaline Pierce Gould, 79, of Stow CreekTownship, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon April 1, 2006 shortly after arrival in the emergency room at S. J. Hospital in Elmer. The wife of the late Joseph H. Gould Sr., who died in 1984, she was born in the Fordville section of Fairfield Township and was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Eleonor Pierce.

A lifelong resident of the Bridgetonarea, Mrs. Gould lived at her current address over forty-five years. She was employed for nearly forty years at the P. J. Ritter Company in Bridgeton. Beginning at age sixteen, she worked until retiring in 1975. In her younger years, she attended the Fordville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gould enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had a special relationship with her sister. She was a cat lover and birdwatcher who was a faithful listener of the bird watching program on radio station WSNJ. In addition, Mrs. Gould liked to watch Jeopardy and the Wheel of Fortune every night on television. She also loved flowers and working in her flower garden.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph H. Gould Jr. and Robert A. Gould and his wife Josephine, all of Stow Creek, two granddaughters, Teresa Emmaline Rodgers and Anita Marie Gould, two step-grandsons, Eugene F. and Ronald T. Spatola and two great grandsons, Robert T. Rodgers and William W. Sooy III. She is also survived by one sister, Reba E. Ojeda-Vega of Vineland and a step brother, Alexander Pierce of Bridgeton. She was preceded in death by brothers, Freeman Pierce and Nathaniel Pierce and step-brothers, Carl Pierce, Harry Sherman Pierce Sr. and Edward Pierce.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning April 5th at 10 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. The interment will be made in the family cemetery lot at Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8. Ethel M. Jackson Gould ~1911-1984

1. Obituary: Ethel M. Gould, 73, of 747 Shiloh Pike, Hopewell Township died Monday morning in Bridgeton Hospital where she was a patient for a month. She had been in failing health the past 10 months.

The daughter of the late Ira and Winifred Perkins Jackson, she was born in Cannon, Del., and was the wife of Romaine Gould. Mr. and Mrs. Gould celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this past April. The deceased had been employed with the former M.C. Schrank Co., now Val Mode Inc., for more than 50 years, retiring two years ago.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Raymond I. of Wilmington, Del., and Melvin R. Golder of Sparks, Nev.; four grandchildren; two brothers, John Jackson of Lewes, Del., and Edward Jackson of Bridgeton,. and three sisters, Hazel Ford, Lucy Dean and Margie Henderson, all of Bridgeton.

Mrs. Gould was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene for many years, having been a former Sunday school teacher. Her pastor, the Rev. Thomas Morgan, assisted by former pastor the Rev. A.C. MacKenzie, will conduct private services at the convenience of the family on Wednesday at the Garrison Funeral Home, 43 Fayette St. Interment will be made in Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown. There will be no public viewing. For those who desire, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Gould's memory be made to the building fund of the First Church of the Nazarene, 350 W. Park Drive, Bridgeton, N.J. 08302. A memorial service for Mrs. Gould will be held at the church on Sunday Aug. 19 at 11 a.m.

Felton Gould ~1922-2003

Felton Gould, 81 of Fairfield Township, died Friday morning in the Renaissance Nursing Center, Bridgeton, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Gould was born in Fairfield Township and was the son of the late George B. and Isabella Susan Gould. The husband of the late Clara Gould, he had been a lifetime Bridgeton-Gouldtown area resident.

Semi-retired, Mr. Gould had been a partner in Main Line Fuel Service, Inc. in Fairfield Township for 29 years. Prior to that he had been a self employed tractor trailer driver and had driven for several local concerns, including Ben Rizzo, Jersey Tyler Co. and National Freight. He was a member of the St. John Masonic Grand Lodge of New Jersey, International Sheriff's Assoc. and was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of police.

Survivors include: five sons, Douglas Clark, Deerfield Township, Felton R. Gould, Hopewell Township, Elmer Gould, Fairfield Township, William Gould, Fairfield Township and Oscar Gould, Bridgeton; six daughters, Clara Palmer, Bridgeton, Sharon Goodwin, Bridgeton, Roberta Cole, Wilmington, DE, Dawn Winogron, Maryland, Linda Bard, Bridgeton, and Maryanna Ceaser, Quinton; thirty one grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and his Fox Hound and constant companion "Fusty". He was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Palmer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, June 25, at 11:00 in the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church, 424 Indian Ave., Bridgeton. Interment will be in Gouldtown Cemetery, Fairfield Township. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday evening between 7:00 and 9:00 and Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township.

 

Ferdinand K. Gould Sr. ~1904-1982

1. Obituary: Ferdinand Gould Sr., 78, of RD 3, Willis Road, Stow Creek Township died in Bridgeton Hospital where was a patient for three weeks. He had been in failing health the past year. Born in Fairfield Township, he was the son of the late John and Anna L. Gould and was the husband of Clara Carney Gould. Mr. and Mrs. Gould had observed their 56th wedding anniversary last July 9.

Mr. Gould had been a self-employed farmer for most of his life, but for a number of years he was employed by the Cumberland County Road Department. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Fordville.

In addition to is wife, he is survived by four sons, Ferdinand K. Jr. of RD 3, Joseph H. of RD 3, Minous R. of RD 7 and William K. Gould of RD 2; a daughter, Geraldine G. Pierce of RD 7; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a sister Geraldine A. Pierce of RD 2 and four foster children, Cheryl Gould, Lawrence and Kevin Gould and Wilson Capaldi.

The Rev. Thomas J. McKelvey, pastor of the Haleyville Church of God will conduct the services on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Garrison Funeral Home, 43 Fayette St. Interment will be made in the family plot at Gouldtown Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ferdinand Gould Jr. ~1928-2004

Ferdinand Gould Jr., 76, of Stow Creek Township, died early Friday morning at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Quinton Twp., the son of the late Ferdinand Gould Sr. and Clara Carney Gould, he was the husband of Reba D. Pierce Gould.

He had lived at his present address for the past 29 years and had been a Stow Creek resident most of his life. In his early years he was employed as a carpenter and began farming full time in 1970. He retired in 1991 after 21 years of contributing to the agricultural community. He was an avid wildlife hunter and enjoyed spending time with his hunting dogs.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by one daughter, Beverly Carter and husband Wayne of Fairfield Twsp., and one son Dennis Gould, of Stow Township, four grandchildren Josette Carter, Aimee Carter, 3Cmidshipmen Michael Carter, and Lesley Gould. Two great grandchildren Derek Carter and Jaelynn Combs. One brother William Gould Sr. of Greenwich Township. He was predeceased by an infant son Keith D. Gould, one sister Geraldine Pierce and two brothers, Minus Gould and Joseph Gould Sr. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 62 Landis Ave. Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Township. Interment will follow in Fernwood Memorial Park Hopewell Township. Friends may call Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.


Frances Howell Gould    ~1922-2012

Frances Howell Gould, 90, daughter of the late William T. and Mary Ellen Howell, departed this life on Wednesday, June 6 while a patient at the University Medical Center of Princeton. Mrs. Gould was born in Smithville, TX. and was a resident of Robbinsville and a former resident of Bridgeton, NJ.  

She was a graduate of Prairie View A&M University and after WWII, she married and moved with her husband to Bridgeton, where she received graduate degrees from Rowan University. Mrs. Gould spent her entire career as a teacher, first in the Bridgeton Public Schools, later teaching the learning disabled from the Cumberland County Superintendent's Office and ending her career teaching the hearing impaired in Corbin City. After her retirement she volunteered in the Hamilton Township Schools. Mrs. Gould was predeceased by her husband Sydney O. Gould, Jr., her son Sydney H. Gould and her brother Hugh E. Howell. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn L. Gould, MD of Mercerville, her sister Marian L. Howell of Los Angeles, CA, daughter in law Brenda B. Gould of Houston, TX, granddaughters Lori A. Gould (Erick Averna), of Fairfield, CA and Stacey L. Gould of San Francisco, CA.  

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bridgeton 119 W. Commerce St. Bridgeton. George Ward Gould 1925-2006

George Ward "Pop" "Mr. Bunky" Gould, 80, of Absecon, on Thursday April 06, 2006 at Atlantic City Medical Center Mainland Division."Mr. Bunky" or "Pop", as he was affectionately called by many was born to the late Carlton and Georgianna Gould in Pleasantville on June 5, 1925.

George attended the Pleasantville public school systems. George served in the United States Army in World War II from 1943 until 1945. He received The European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, The American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Metal, Victory Medal WWII. George worked for Rose Transportation, and Fabi Construction out of the Teamsters Union Local 331 as a long distance trucker for many years. After he retired as a trucker he became employed with D& M formally known as "Quick Rite Market" in both Atlantic City locations. "Pop" was known for his generosity to all. He was a very kind man that would help everybody and anybody. There were times that he would feel sorry for persons that could not afford to pay, and he would just give the food or items away. He once told his family that if he would ever hit the lottery, that he would stand on a nearby corner and pass out money to those that were in need. "Mr. Bunky's" life contribution was always putting others first in everything he would do. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his caregivers Marlene Hargis and Gloria Gordy, both of Absecon; Godchildren Mildred "Suggie" Hargis of Absecon, Raymond Hargis III of Atlantic City, Gaffney Hargis of New Brunswick, Marlon Hargis of North Carolina, Byron Hargis of Atlantic City and Mary Abdur-Rasheed of Pleasantville: sister Eva Gould of Pleasantville and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother Carlton Gould. Gladys “Pearl” Pauline Gould, daughter of the late Fred H. and Mary Elizabeth (nee Mosley) Ridgeway and widow of Marvin “Tobby” Gould, went home to be with to be the Lord Friday, March 30, 2012, while a patient So. JerseyHealthcare Elmer.  Mrs. Gould was born August 23, 1936 in Stow Creek and was a resident of Fairton.  

She was a LPN having retired from Cumberland Manor and So. JerseyHomecare. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church Fordville where she was a Communion Steward, Youth Advisor and member of the Administrative Bd. 

She leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter Paula D. Gould; three sons Nash P. Ridgeway Sr., Marvin, Jr. and Ward F. Gould; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by 6 brothers Carl F., Roland, Paul, Henry , Norman, , Harrison J. and 5 sisters Thelma Loatman, Dorothy Pierce, Elizabeth Carney, Lillian “Mitzi” Pierce and Christine Miller. 

Services will be held 11am Saturday, April 7, 2012 at St. John United Methodist Church, Fordville, NJ. Interment will be in the Fordville Cemetery. Family and friends may attend a viewing Friday, April 6 at the church from 6pm-8pm and a hour prior to services.

Grace Douglas Gould, colored, widow of the late Menon Gould, died at her home, 567 East Commerce street on Saturday. The funeral will be held from her late residence. Mrs. Gould will be buried at the Gouldtown Cemetery on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Friends are welcome to call on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.

 

Harold L. Gould Sr.   1927-2012

Harold L. Gould Sr. 88 of Millville, passed away Friday afternoon November 9, 2012 in New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, Vineland, after being in declining health for the past two years. Born in Gouldtown, NJ he was the son of the late Sydney and Eva (nee Lloyd) Gould and the husband of Gwendolyn McElroy Foote Gould. 

Mr. Gould had been a resident of the Carmel area for the past 65 years, and had grown up and attended the original Gouldtown three room school, which had three grades in each class. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1943, and pursued his education at Morgan State College and Glassboro State College where he graduated in 1947. In 1950, he entered the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1952 during the Korean War. Mr. Gould’s passion was always baseball and he excelled in the sport, where he played in the Negro Baseball League for the Philly Stars in the United States and then in the Canada Professional Leagues for the Dodgers. In 1994 he was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, and the South Jersey Hall of Fame in 2001. He was named one of Cumberland County’s “People of the Century” in 1999, and was named to the county’s Black Hall of Fame in 2009. He has been honored each April by the Phillies on Jackie Robinson Day, along with other former Philly Stars players. In 1970 he became the first black pipe fitter/welder in Local 322, where he worked until his retirement in 1998. For several years he also ran Harold’s Welding , and taught Industrial Arts for the Bridgeton Board of Education and Leesburg State Prison System, where he also served as director of the prison Industrial Arts Program. He was very proud of his Gouldtown roots, and where he came from, in fact an oral narrative was written and published in 2009 by Dr. Bob Allen entitled “He Came From Gouldtown” He also enjoyed raising, breeding, and racing thoroughbred horses, playing pool, and playing golf, with his many friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gwendolyn, his three children Valerie A. Gould, Harold L Gould Jr. both of Millville, and Lorena E. Gould of Bridgeton, one brother Herbert Gould of Atlantic City, five grandchildren Kiana Gould, John L. Stubbs III, “Keoni” Aundrea D. Gould, Marcus Lamont Savage, and Jalani Stubbs. He was predeceased by his daughter Jocelyne D. Gould, brothers Sydney Gould and Donald Gould, and sisters Pauline Boykin, Alice Gould Cuff, and Greta Chappell. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from the Union Baptist Temple Church , 30 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The interment will take place in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. Friends may call on Friday afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. AT the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME , 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. and on Saturday morning from 8:00 to 10:00a.m prior to the services, at the church.

Hattie Gould, 90, of Conn., formerly of Upper Deerfield Twp. went home to be with the Lord suddenly Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her home. Born in Greenville, SC, to the late William and Sarah Moore, she was a faithful member of the Universal Hagar's Spiritual Church in Temple #3 in Brooklyn, NY, where she was a church Mother for over 40 years and also a member of the Knight's of all Seeing Eye. Ms. Gould was the wife of the late Harry Gould Sr. and the beloved friend of Gene Bittle, whom both predeceased her.

Ms.Gould leaves to cherish her memories, a dedicated and loving daughter, Jeannie Bittle-Drakeford of Windsor, Conn.; a sister, Nancy Moore; a dedicated granddaughter, Mary Catherine Smith; and a loving grandson, Lester Gould Jr., whom she raised. She also has 20 other grandchildren and over 30 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews andfriends.

Services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Edwards & Son Funeral Homes Inc., 208 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton at noon where friends may call 1 hour prior to the services. Rev. Hubert Gould Jr. ~1931-2002

Rev. Hubert Gould, Jr., 71, of Mays Landing, formerly of Bridgeton, died July 17, in Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, after an extended illness. Born Dec. 17, 1930 in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Rev. Hubert Gould, Sr. and Dorothy E. Gould of Bridgeton.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Hubert Gould, Jr. entered the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Ga. on July 4, 1949. On Sept. 7, 1950, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with the letter V for heroic achievement, by the direction of the President of the United States. Before his discharge on Sept. 5, 1952, Sgt. Gould had received the Combat Infantry Badge, R.O.K. Presidential Unit Citation, the U.N. Service Medal, Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart. As a certified laundry manager, Rev. Gould held management positions with many of the four star hotels in the hospitality industry. Rev. Gould received numerous citations for his community service from the New Jersey State Senate and the New Jersey State Assembly. Civic social organizations in which Rev. Gould participated included Gouldtown Progressive Club, Ionic Masonic Lodge #41 and the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians. In 1953, Rev. Gould founded the King Memorial Church in Bridgeton where he remained pastor until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Gould of Mays Landing; three daughters, Dorothy Gould-Smith, Sharpsburg, Md., Jacqulyn Gould-Burroughs, Norma and Helen Gould-Bodhuin, Millville; five step-children; two sisters, Janet Gilbert, Bridgeton and Vandella Dunn, Marmora; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Gould and a brother, Edgar Gould.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, at noon in King Memorial Church, 577 East Commerce St., Bridgeton. Burial will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Friends will be received Monday morning between 10 and 12, prior to the services at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township.



Iona Durham Gould   1931-2013 

Iona Durham Gould, 82, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Twp. following three years of declining health. 

Born in Dover, DE on January 4, 1931 to the late Samuel Durham and Sarah Morris Durham, she was the wife of the late Minous R. Gould. She had been a Bridgeton resident most of her life. 

>Iona had been employed assisting her late husband in the operation of the Gould Farm. She was a member of the Bethany Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bridgeton. 

She is survived by a son, Raymond W. Gould of Upper Deerfield Township; two brothers, Samuel Durham, Jr. of Greenwich and Purcell Durham of Dover, DE and a sister, Elizabeth Ridgeway of Dover, DE. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia-Gould France and a sister, Marion Carney. 

Services were held privately at the convenience of the family. Cremation and inurnment took place at Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Township. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township. Irene H. Gould ~1908-2001

Irene H. Gould, age 93 of Fairfield Township, died Tuesday evening at the South Jersey Hospital-Bridgeton where she had been a patient for eight days. She had been in declining health for the past ten years. Born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Rev. William Hicks and Henrietta Congo Hicks, she was the wife of the late Arthur R. Gould.

She had lived at her present address for 9 years and prior to that had been a Bridgeton resident for many years. Mrs. Gould was an avid crocheter and enjoyed knitting and music.

Surviving are four daughters, Leona Gould of Fairfield Twp., Shirley Banks of Willingboro, Sylvia Hull of Sicklerville and Darlene G. Colson of Virginia Beach, VA; four sons, Joseph and Philip Gould both of Willingboro, Franklin Gould of Camden and Darrell Gould of Pine Hill along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by four daughters, Lola Gould, Henrietta Butler, Harriet Reyes and Christine Dupree and three sons, William Gould, Madison Gould and Ray Gould.

Funeral Services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway #77, Upper Deerfield Township on Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm. Burial will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Township. Friends may call on Friday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Isabella S. Gould, 93, of 296 E. Commerce St., died Friday morning at South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division shortly after being admitted from Bridgeton Nursing Home where she has been a patient. Mrs. Gould was born in Bridgeton to the late Elmer and Roberta Pierce Gould. She had been an area resident all of her life and was retired from the P.J. Ritter Co.

Surviving are one son, Felton Gould of Bridgeton; eleven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Monday morning at 11am at the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 40 East Avenue, Bridgeton. Interment is at Gouldtown Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday evening after 7pm at the funeral home.

James (Jim) Gould, 59 of 32 Eagle Street, died in Bridgeton Hospital on Wednesday. Born in Deerfield, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Isabelle Gould and before his health failed had been employed at Agway Petroleum Co., Manheim Avenue.

He is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Sarah Durham, five brothers, all of Bridgeton, Kenneth, Howard, William and Lester Gould, and Courtland Pierce; three sisters, all of Bridgeton; Mrs. Sarah Garland, Mrs. Martha Pierce and Mrs. Maude Harris; two aunts; Mrs. Clara Pitts of New York and Mrs. Hilda Owens, Bridgeton; also by nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Joseph H. Gould ~1929-1984

1. Obituary: Joseph H. Gould, 55, of RD 3, Box 89A, Willis Road died early Saturday morning in Bridgeton Hospital where he was a patient for five days. He had been in failing health the past two months. Born in Greenwich, he was the son of Clara Corney Gould of RD 3 and the late Ferdinand K. Gould and the husband of Emmaline Pierce Gould.

A lifetime resident of this community, he had lived at his present address for 25 years. Mr. Gould had been employed as a carpenter with the Bechtel Power Co. at Artificial Island for five years, retiring when his health began to fail. He was formerly employed by the United Engineers Co. at Artificial Island. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Fordville and the Carpenter's Union, Salem Local 542. Throughout his life, Mr. Gould enjoyed farming and operated a farm at his residence. Mr. and Mrs. Gould would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this Dec. 31.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Jr. and Robert Gould, both at home; three brothers, Ferdinand Jr. of RD 3, Minous of RD 7 and William Gould, of RD 3; a sister, Geraldine Pierce of RD 2, and two granddaughters.

Services will be held from the Carll-Peterson-Ilacqua Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St., on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Nyada Clarke, pastor of St. John United Methodist Church, officiating. Lenette Tristan Gould 1959-2014

Lenette Tristan "Tristy" Gould, daughter of Martha (Moore) Gould and Warren Ronald Gould, was born in Newark, New Jersey, on December 13, 1959. Quietly and peacefully after a brief illness, Tristy went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 25, 2014, at South Jersey Extended Care, Bridgeton, New Jersey.

A happy little girl, Tristy grew up in Newark, NJ and later in Bridgeton and Millville. A graduate of Millville High School, Lenette was employed as a CNA at the Vineland State School, until her retirement in 2013. Lenette was a talented and versatile woman. Miss Gould had numerous hobbies; some of which included photography, crocheting, knitting, cooking, jewelry making, and playing the guitar. Her passion was reading the many genres in her extensive personal library. For hours, Tristy would be found reading and studying the Word of God.

Tristy accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and was a member of the Voice of Deliverance New Covenant Church, Vineland, NJ. She will be remembered as a person of faith and hope; a woman of integrity, principles, honesty, and values. Passionate about life, she was respected and respectful. She loved her God and expressed this commitment out- loud, in word and action. She spread her happiness and joy for the Lord through her commitment in ministry to "Feed the Children". To have the privilege of knowing and loving her will forever be our honor.

Lenette was predeceased by her mother, Martha Gould; her sister, Marguerite Pierce; aunts: Isabel Covey-Davis, Mary Govia, Lucille Brown and Barbara Brown; paternal grandparents: Clifton and Mary Gould and maternal grandparents: Joseph and Ella Moore.

1. Obituary: Leon (Bud) Gould Jr., 57, of 32 Tips Trailer Park died Friday morning from injuries received in an automobile accident. A veteran of World War II, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of Emma Pierce of Bridgeton and the late Leon Gould Sr. He was employed at Scott Paper Inc. in Landisville and was a past member of the Samuel J. Leona I. Gould, 76, of Bridgeton, N.J., quietly passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, 2007, at her residence, after an extended illness. She had been in failing health for the past 30 years. Leona was the daughter of the late Arthur R. Sr. and Irene E. (nee Hicks) Gould. She was born and raised in Camden, N.J., where she attended the Camden City public school system.

"Lony" as she was affectionately known to friends and family, joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, in Camden, as a young child. Leona graduated from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in preparation for her longstanding career as a teacher. She began her teaching career in Merchantville, N.J., and later retired from Fairfield Township School District, after serving more than 30 years as a second-grade teacher.

Leona is survived by her dear friend, Philip Nelson; three brothers, Darrell Gould, of Pine Hill, N.J., Joseph Gould, of Willingboro, N.J., and Philip Gould, of Edgewater Park, N.J.; three sisters, Darlene Colson, of Va. Beach, Va., Shirley Banks, of Delanco, N.J., and Sylvia Hall, of Sicklerville, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and many former students. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, William, Franklin, Arthur, and Madison; and four sisters, Lola, Harriett, Christine, and Henrietta.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at noon, at the Sray Webster Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave., Carll¹s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. The Rev. Lester Harry Gould 1956-2010

Lester Harry Gould, lovingly known by family as "Poppa", passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 after an intense battle with Kidney Disease. Though Lester was born in Connecticut November 30, 1956 to Mr. & Mrs. Lester Sr. and Willie Mae Gould, he was schooled and raised in Bridgeton NJ by his paternal grandmother, Hattie Gould.

For many years Lester was employed at Kimble Glass in Vineland, NJ as well as other various places throughout NJ and PA. A quiet, charming man with a contagious laugh and a smile, along with a loving sense of humor (and that toothpick hanging out the side of his mouth…smile), Lester could always say just "a little something" that could make one forget what it was that may have been troubling you at the time and bring you into full laughter….thus creating a bright spot in your day… Before his illness Lester had an ear for fixing cars and could just listen to a motor run and know what the problem was, and most times he could fix it too…… He loved to play cards, especially "Spades"… and often he could be found in a quiet fishing spot; he'd say, "here like this… I feel peace"… Lester Harry Gould Jr., "Poppa"… will be sadly and greatly missed by all those who loved him and those who at some point in time shared a part with him in this thing called Life.

Lester is survived by 3 sons, Cordell Lester Harry Gould; of Glassboro, NJ, Jason Phillip Lester Gould; of Ohio, and Nah'fir Sierra- Gould ;of NJ… 3 brothers, Howard Tyson (Margretta), John Thomas (Lorrie), & Jimmy Gould (Africa); all of Conn.… 4 sisters, Helen Thomas, Mary Webb, Gloria Gould; all of Conn.…. And Yvonne Gould: of Bridgeton NJ, a special Aunt who was raised like his sister in NJ, Jeannie Bittle (Jeffery); now of Conn.; and dear cousins, Deborah McDonald, & James Smith (aka Skeetie), a close friend from elementary school, OD… as well as a host of other family & friends. Lester was predeceased by a precious daughter, Santriesa Marie Fentress, his grandmother, Hattie, parents Lester and Willie Mae Gould; brothers, William Thomas (aka Dida), Clifford and Jerry Gould, a greatly loved Uncle, Tex, Aunts Mary Goodwin & Isabella Raynor (aka Loopy), other family he has loved and now reunited with.

Louisa Henrietta Gould, 90, of Bridgeton died Wednesday in Cumberland Manor after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeton, daughter of the late Walter M. and Jennie (nee Bond) Gould, she lived at the Manor most of her adult life. She was a graduate of Bridgeton High School and a member of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Bridgeton. She was supportive of the Alice S. Felts Federated Sacred Trust Club. Surviving are two nephews, Robert of Philadelphia and Wayne of Woodbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie Gould, 79, of RD Amwellbury Road, Salem died Saturday in the Memorial Hospital of Salem County. Born in Fenwick, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Lavania Dorn Wilkinson and the wife of the late Nathaniel Gould. She was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Gould had been an employee of the Salem City Board of Education as an attendance officer and substitute teacher caller. She was a member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church of Salem where she was a stewardess, an usher, a member of the Willing Workers. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Cuff-Barksdale American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 444 and a driver for Star Fish.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Debra Gould of Landsdown, Pa., and a daughter, Lavania Gould of Salem.

Services will be held Friday at 1pm from Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Broadway, Salem with the Rev. William Black, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Salem. Friends may call Thursday evening after 6 at the Edward and Son Funeral Home, 166 S. Seventh St, Salem and after 11am on Friday at the church. American Legion Services will be held Thursday evening at 7 at the funeral home.

1. Obituary: Marie C. Gould, 62, of 952 Buckshutem Road, Bridgeton, New Jersey, died Tuesday morning, July 8, 1986 at her home. Born in Hopewell Township, March 25, 1924, she was the daughter of Maybelle Mosley Durham and the late Harry Durham, and step-daughter of the late Walton Seeney.

She attended the Woodstown schools. She was married to Jesse J. Gould on December 21, 1946. Marie leaves to mourn four children, Mrs. Thomas (Judith) Jones, Mrs. Herbert (Maybelle) Pierce, Mr. Harry W. Gould, all of Bridgeton, and Mrs. Darrell (Jessie) Barker of  --shboro, North Carolina; she also leaves to mourn two brothers, Melvin Durham of Bridgeton and Raymond Loatman of Vineland, one daughter-in-law, three sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friend. Marie was an active member and pianist of the St. John's United Methodist Church of Fordville, an active member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Center, a member of the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club, and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Marie was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and a loving and giving friend to many. Although she is absent from the body, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is in the presence of the Lord.

Marvin "Tobby" Gould, Sr. son of the late Mary (nee Gould) Tucker and Elmer Tucker, departed this life on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 while a patient at the South Jersey Healthcare RMC Vineland, NJ. Mr. Gould was born October 3, 1933 in Fairfield Twp. and has been an area resident for all of his life. He attended St. John United Methodist Church Fordville. After 23 years of employment with Wheaton Glass of Millville he retired due to his declining health. He was known as Camper by C B Operators.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Gladys Pauline "Pearl" (nee Ridgeway) Gould, children Nash P. Ridgeway, Sr., Marvin, Jr., Ward F. and Paula Gould, sisters Gladys and Anna Thomas, 9 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Monday at 1:PM at the St. John United Methodist Church Fordville, with Pastor Roy Bundy, officiating and Rev. Ralph Barrett assisting. Mary L. Gould, 74, of Salem died Wednesday in Cumberland Manor, Hopewell Township. She had been in failing health for 10 years. Born at Fort Mott, in Pennsville Township, she was the daughter of the late Herchel and Mary Cuff Gould, and had been a lifetime resident of the Salem area. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed with a number of farms in Alloway Township.

Surviving are a brother, Howard Gould, of Virginia; and two sisters, Eleanor Ashton and Lydia Bryant, both of Bridgeton. She was predeceased by a sister, Georgeanna E. Pierce.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday in Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Friends may call between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Monday at Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township.

 

Maude E. Pierce Gould

Maude E. Gould, 75, of 351 South East Avenue, died suddenly Sunday. She was the wife of the late Craig F. Gould. Born in Elmer, Mrs. Gould was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Rosella Pierce. Mrs. Gould was a member of Bethany Christian Church, where she was active on the stewardess board.

The deceased is survived by: two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Wright of Bridgeton, and Mrs. Esther Crespo of Manhattan; five sisters, Mrs. Ada Simons, Burlington, Miss Clara Pierce, Mrs. Margaret Pierce, Mrs. Evelyn Robinson and Mrs. Eli Lee, all of Bridgeton; three brothers, Earl Pierce of Moorestown, and Wilbert and Paul Pierce of Bridgeton and five grandsons.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Samuel James at Bethany Christian Church, Burlington Avenue, on Wednesday.

 

Minous Raymond Gould ~1931-1985

1. Obituary: Minous Raymond Gould, 54, of Carmel Road, RD 7 died Sunday evening at Bridgeton Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. Although he had been in failing health for nine months, his death was unexpected. Born in Greenwich Township, the son of the late Ferdinand K. Sr. and Clara Carney Gould, he attended and graduated from Stow Creek School and attended Bridgeton High School.

Mr. Gould was the husband of lona Durham Gould and the couple would have observed their 35th wedding anniversary this June. A farmer and carpenter, Mr. Gould had been employed by the Bechtel Construction Co. Inc. at Artificial Island, retiring in April due to ill health. He was a member of the Carpenters Union No. 542, the Bridgeton Beagle Club and the Bridgeton Seventh Day Adventist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Raymond Gould of Tacoma Park, Md.; a daughter, Patricia Gould of Millville; two brothers, Ferdinand K. Gould Jr. of Stow Creek and William K. Gould of Greenwich; a sister, Geraldine Gould Pierce of RD 2, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph H. Gould, in 1984 and his mother, Clara Carney Gould, in February of this year.

The Rev. J. Alan Fine, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, will conduct funeral services 11 a.m. Friday from the Garrison Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St. Interment will be made in Fernwood Memorial Park. Friends will be received for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Miriam E. Winrow Gould, 78, of Atlantic City, formerly of Bridgeton, departed this life peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on July 18, 2010, at theA.C. Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Bridgeton, N.J., to the late Howard E. and Oleta (Green) Winrow, Miriam was a former employee of the Atlantic City Board of Education.

Miriam received her elementary and high school education through the Bridgeton Public School System. She received her BA in Education from Stockton State College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and her teachers certification was received fromRowan University. Miriam was a devoted mother and wife that enjoyed reading, cooking, and poetry.

Miriam leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband, Leroy H. Gould; one son, Todd Gould; two brothers, Granville "Mike" Winrow and Ord Winrow; two sisters, Beverly (George) Newton, and Vail (Glenn) Bailey; three grandchildren, Guy, Jonah, and Kiara; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Miriam was preceded in death by her son, Guy Gould.

Nelson Gould, 70, a lifetime resident of Fairfield Township passed away early Saturday morning at Veterans Hospital, Wilmington following a long illness. He was born in Fairfield Township, the son of the late Frank and Sarah Wright.

A veteran of World War I, Cpl. Nelson Gould served with Battery C. 350th Field Artillery in France. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 11, 1918, and was a member of Shoemaker Post 95, American Legion some 20 years. Before his illness, Mr. Gould had been employed by Martin Dyeing & Finishing Company for some 40 years.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Elmira Gould nee Dean; one daughter, Mrs. Matilda Green; a son Franklin Dean; also two grandchildren; a cousin and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. William M. Tasco Thursday at 2pm at St. John Methodist Church Fordville Friends may call at the Lively Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock. Interment will be in Fordville Park.

Rachel C. Gould of Carmel, Deerfield Township died late Sunday evening April 23, 2006 at South Jersey Extended Care in Bridgeton where she had been a patient for two weeks. She was 93. Mrs. Gould was born in Fairfield Township and was the daughter of the late Warren and Ruth Gould. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip H. Gould, who died in 1980. A lifetime area resident, she lived in the same home for forty-six years.

A seamstress, Mrs. Gould worked for Major Clothing in Bridgeton prior to her retirement. She also worked as a seamstress at the former Seibel and Stern Clothing Co. and Morvay's Sewing Factory. She was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union and gardening and sewing were her hobbies. She also helped her husband for many years on the family farm and worked at their family farm market.

She is survived by one son, Morris E. Gould and his wife Denise L. Gould of Carmel, two granddaughters, Dana M. Gould and Denise L. Gould of Carmel and one sister, Ruth Durham of Fairfield Township. She was predeceased by brothers, Romaine and Jerry Gould and a sister, Matilda Lloyd.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning April 27 at 11 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton where friends will be received one hour prior to the services. The interment will be made at Fordville Cemetery in Fairfield Township. Ralph S. Gould, 53, of Hammonton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point. Ralph was born on December 2, 1955 in Somers Point to the late Roscoe C. and Evelyn (Crews) Gould.

Ralph attended Pleasantville Public Schools, graduating in 1974 and served in the Air National Guard. He worked at the Atlantic City Electric Company for 17 years.

Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Shaun Gould and parents, Roscoe C. and Evelyn Gould and Alivia Gould. 1. Obituary: Sarah A. Gould, 61, of Greenwich Township died Monday at home. She had been in failing heath for the past four years.

A lifetime Greenwich resident, daughter of the late DuPont W. and Mary Pearce Mosley, she was member of the Hopewell Church of God and the Ladies Willing Workers Program. She was the first woman coach in West Cumberland Farm League and coached the Don Rogers Team. She was a member of the Nanticoke-Lenape Indian Association and was an avid gardener, fisherman and camper.

Surviving are her husband, William K.; a daughter, Helena Hanes of Lower Alloways Creek; two sons, William K. Jr. of New Castle, Del., and Steven D. of Greenwich Township; a stepson, William Durham of Dover, Del.; three sisters, Natalie Ridgway of Alloway Township, Mary Jane Cannon of Georgia and Carolyn Pritchett of Hopewell Township; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, DuPont W. Mosley Jr.

1. Obituary: Sherwood Gould, 80, of Irving Avenue, Carmel died Wednesday in Bridgeton Hospital. The son of the late Albert and Margaret Sammons Gould, he was a lifelong resident of Bridgeton and the husband of the late Sophia Mosley Gould.

Mr. Gould was formerly employed by the Morris April Brothers in Millville and Koster Nursery. He retired in 1982 from Manno-Pierce Bus Service.

Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Goldsboro of Bridgeton and Mayme Clarke of Swedesboro; a sister, Mary Lively of Bridgeton; a brother, Albert Gould Jr. of Camden; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Lively Funeral Home, 656 E. Commerce St. with the Rev. Nyada Clarke, Pastor of SL John United Methodist Church of Fordville, officiating. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Memorial Park.

Sophia Mosley Gould 1909-1984

1. Obituary: Sophia M. Gould, 75, of Carmel Road, Millville died Tuesday in Bridgeton Hospital. The wife of Sherwood Gould, she was born in Cheswold, Del., and was an area resident for the past 70 years, moving from Cheswold.

Mrs. Gould was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Fordville where she was a Sunday school teacher for the adult class, on the usher board and a communion steward. She was employed by Sibel and Stern of Bridgeton.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth E. Goldsboro of Bridgeton and Mayme J. Clarke of Swedesboro; two brothers, Albert Mosely of Cheswold and Elvin Loatman of Springfield, Mass; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at St. John United Methodist Church on Saturday. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Arrangements by the Lively Funeral Home, 656 E. Commerce St.

2. Funeral program: Sophia Mosely Gould, daughter of the late Sadie and Levi Mosely was born in Cheswold, Delaware, on October 16, 1909. She came to Bridgeton at the age of five years and has been an area resident for the past seventy years. After a short illness, she departed this life on Tuesday, January 10, 1984 in the Bridgeton Hospital.

She was married to Sherwood Gould and was blessed with two lovely daughters, Elizabeth and Mayme.

Sophia was a lovely, quiet, devout Christian, a good wife and a wonderful mother. She was a loyal and faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church for many years. She taught the adult class in Church School, ushered in church, and was a loyal and dedicated communion steward. She loved the Church of Christ and served it faithfully with her time, service and tithe. She was employed by Sibel and Stern of Bridgeton for over forty years.

In addition to her husband Sherwood she is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth E. Goldsboro of Bridgeton, and Mayme J. Clarke of Swedesboro; two brothers, Albert Mosely of Cheswold, Delaware and Elvin Loatman of Springfield, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Herbert, Martin, Barry and Sharon Goldsboro, Douglas and Dana Lynn Clarke; two great-grandchildren, Ahmond and Alaya Goldsboro.

Sophia will be missed but her lovely smile, cheery "Hello," and "Praise the Lord," will never be forgotten. We loved her, but God loved her best, and has taken her to receive her reward.

Sydney H. Gould

Sydney H. Gould, 53, formerly of Bridgeton and of Houston, Tex., died Feb. 13 in The Woodlands, Texas, of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). A Bridgeton native, son of the late Sydney O. Gould, he was a graduate of Bridgeton High School and Hampton University. He had been employed by Chevron Oil Co. in the department of Human Resources for 31 years, serving in positions in California, Louisiana, Texas, and the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the position of Human Resource Manager.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Brenda (nee Banks); two daughters, Lori G. Marxmiller of Fairfield, Calif., and Stacey L. of Oakland, Calif.; his mother, Frances H. of Robinsville; and a sister, Dr. Carolyn L. of Mercerville.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church, Bridgeton. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association, 500 Office Center Drive, Suite 340, Fort Washington, Pa. 19034. Arrangements are by the Forest Park the Woodlands Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.

Veronica Jill Gould, 34, of 824 Steward Ave., Bridgeton, died Tuesday in Newcomb Medical Center, Vineland. Born in and a lifelong resident of Bridgeton, she was the daughter of Shirley Harris and Clinton Palmer, both of Bridgeton and the wife of William Gould.

A graduate of Bridgeton High School, she attended Cumberland County College and was a former special education teacher’s aide for the Bridgeton Board of Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodbine.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by three sons, William Jr., Lorenzo and Robert Gould of Bridgeton; a daughter, Tonoa Gould of Bridgeton; three brothers, Clinton A., Alden and Romont Palmer of Bridgeton; two sisters, Sonia and Tina Palmer of Bridgeton; and a grandson.

Services were private at the convenience of the family. Interment was in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Arrangements were under the direction of the Greenidge Funeral Home of Atlantic City.

Wilbert "Wilbur Jr." Gould, 85, of Fairfield Twp., died Friday evening at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past several months. Born in Fairfield Twp., the son of the late Wilbur and Anna (nee Carney) Gould, he was the husband of Marion D. (nee Purnell) Gould.

Mr. Gould was a self-employed contractor and owner of Gould's Construction for over 40 years. He was also a former building inspector for Fairfield, Pittsgrove and Downe Townships. He was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indians of Bridgeton and the Ionic Lodge of Bridgeton. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Wilbur W. and wife, Ivonne M. Gould of Fairfield Twp. and Mark M. and wife, Gail I. Gould of Bridgeton; one sister, Margaret E. and husband, Calvin Pierce of Greenwich; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Jared J. Gould; one brother, Jesse J. Gould; and two sisters, Catherine Mosley and Isabelle Green.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2005 from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roy Bundy, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church, Fordville, officiating. The interment will take place in the family plot in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home and again Wednesday one hour prior to the services.



William Gould Sr. ~1910-2001

William Gould Sr. of Wilmington died Wednesday, April 26, 2001, in Wilmington Hospital. He was 91.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Gould; four daughters, Elmira Keys, and her husband, Deweese, Anna Mae Benson, and her husband, Harry, Eleanor Cofield, and Juanita Gould; four sons, William Gould Jr., and his wife, Joyce, Kenneth Gould, John Gould and Kenneth Henry; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Yvonne E. Gould, 90 of Bridgeton died at her home Friday.

Mrs. Gould was a life long resident. She was the daughter of the late George and Ellen Purnell and widow of William Gould.

She was formerly employed by the Training School and foster grandparents at the Vineland Developmental Center. She was a life long active member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church Bridgeton.

She is survived by a son Hilton Purnell of Bridgeton; Daughter-in-law Martha L. Purnell; grandchildren, Rosa Watford of Vineland, Marie Watford, Phila, Mary Jane Watford of New York, Barbara Watford of Brotmanville, Ellen Y. and Betty A. Watford of Millville, Larry D. Purnell of Georgia, Gracey A. Purnell of Camden, Hilena A., Hilton F., Jr, Yvonne J. Purnell all of Bridgeton and Raymond L. Purnell of Sweden; 30 great grandchildren; 43 great great grandchildren and two great great great grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 1p.m. in the John Wesley United Methodist Church Baltimore Ave. Bridgeton, with Pastor Mildred Stanford, officiating. Interment Cedar Hill Memorial Park.
