Anna D. Pierce Coward ~1896-1985
1. Obituary: Anna D. Coward, 89, of 103 Grandview Drive died Saturday morning at Bridgeton Hospital, where she had been a patient the past five weeks. She had been in failing health the past four years.
She was born in Greenwich, the daughter of the late James and Charlotte Pierce and was the wife of the late John L. Coward Sr. She had lived in Greenwich all her life until four years ago when she moved to her present address. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene where she was very active.
She is survived by two sons, Henry Coward and John L. Coward Jr., both of Bridgeton; four daughters, Frances Sammons of Greenwich, Mrs. Melvin (Minnie) Coombs of Stow Creek, Mrs. Artie (Velma) Coombs and Mrs. Walter (Alice) Carney, both of Bridgeton. 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Coward was predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. Frank Grace) Durham, and two brothers, Leon and Harry Pierce.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road (Route 49), Salem. Interment will be at Fernwood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Edward A. Coward Sr. ~1934-1987
1. Obituary: Edward A. Coward Sr., 53, of RD 7, Burlington Road died Monday evening in Bridgeton Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his residence. He had been in failing health the past six months. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late William and Genevia Jones Coward and the husband of the late Louise Alice Coombs Coward, who died in 1981. Mr. Coward had been employed by the Woodruff oil Co. for some 36 years until his illness six months ago.
He is survived by three sons, Donald W. Coombs of Elmer, Edward A. Coward Jr. of Dover, Del., and Wayne A. Coward, at home; five grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Pierce of Millville Pike; a brother, Irvlean Coward of Fairton, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William Coward, who died in 1979.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Francis E. Champion, pastor of Fortescue Chapel, from the Sray Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave., Carlls Corner, on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment will be made in the family plot at Fernwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
2. Death Notice: COWARD - Of RD 7, Burlington Road, Bridgeton, on Monday, March 30,1987. Edward A. Coward, Sr., husband of the late Louise Alice Coombs Coward, and father of Donald Coombs, Edward Coward, Jr., and Wayne Coward, aged 53 years.

1. Obituary: Henry Coward, 66, of 103 Grandview Drive died Tuesday afternoon at Millville Hospital, where he had been a patient the past four weeks. He had been in failing health the past two years and seriously ill the past three months. Mr. Coward was born in Greenwich, the son of the late John L. and Anna Pierce Coward, and had lived there all his life until four years ago when he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Walter (Alice) Carney at the Grandview Drive address. He had worked on the family farm all his life.
In addition to his sister, Alice, he is survived by a brother, John L. Coward Jr. of Bridgeton; three sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Minnie) Coombs of Stow Creek, Mrs. Artie (Velma) Coombs of Bridgeton and Frances Sammons of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. A.C. McKenzie, retired Nazarene minister, 11 a.m. Saturday from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road (Route 49), Salem. Interment will be made in Fernwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

lrvlean Coward ~1916-1994
1. Obituary: Irvlean Coward, 78, of RD -- Millville, died Tuesday at the South Jersey Hospital System - Bridgeton Division, where he had been a patient one day. He had been in failing health for years and seriously ill for the past four months. Born in Newport, he was the son of the late William H. Sr. and Genevia Jones Coward and was the husband of the late Rebecca Durham Coward. He had resided at his present address for the last four years and prior to that had resided in Fairton.
He was a truck driver and retired from D.T. Fox in Bridgeton in 1983. Prior to that he was employed at Austin Hill Co. in Millville. He was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians and was a citizens band radio enthusiast with the handle ‘‘Slappy.”
He is survived by one sister, Catherine Pierce of Millville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, William H. Jr. and Edward A. Coward.
Funeral services will be held 11 am. Saturday from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road (Route 49), Salem. Interment will be in Fordville Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday morning prior to the service.

John L. Coward, Jr. 1926-2006

John L. "Jack" Coward Jr. 79, of Fairfield Township, died early Wednesday evening June 21, 2006 in the South Jersey Regional Medical Center Vineland. He had been in failing health for the past several months, and had previously been a patient in Cumberland County Manor. Born in Greenwich, N.J. on Aug. 8, 1926, the son of the late John L. Coward Sr. and Anna (nee Pierce) Coward, he was the wife of Charlotte M. (nee Mosley) Coward. Mr. Coward had been a resident of Fairfield Township for most of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and had worked for 40 years has a Pest Control Exterminator for Chesser and Sons Extermination in Bridgeton. He was a ham radio and CB enthusiast and loved working in his garden and manicuring his lawn.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, and three sons John A. Coward Sr. and his wife Doris, Walter Kenneth Coward and his wife Dorothy, and Stephen Coward and Linda, one daughter Barbara L. Wright and her husband Craig, two sisters, Velma Coombs, and Alice Carney, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Warren Coward, one brother Henry Charles Coward, three sisters Francis Sammons, Grace Durham, and Minnie Coombs, and two grandchildren Patricia Pagano and Wanda Sansalone.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The interment will take place in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township At the family's request there will be no public viewing

1. Obituary: Mary Coward, 61, of Carmel Road, RD 7 died Saturday in Millville Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. She had been in failing health for seven months.
Born in Bridgeton, the daughter of Carrie Cuff Pearce of Bridgeton and the late Armstead Pearce, she was the wife of the late William Coward. A lifetime Bridgeton resident, she lived at her present address for 36 years.
Mrs. Coward was formerly employed with Seabrook Foods and the old Jersey Package Company.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Leroy Pearce of Bridgeton; four daughters, Mary Anna Ceasar of Salem, Thelma “Cookie” Williams of Millville, Marie Carter of Bridgeton and Gail Cox of Millville; a brother, Oscar Pearce of Bridgeton; four sisters, Anna Braxton and Eleanor Ceasar, both of Bridgeton, Olita Pierce of Seabrook and Pauline Valentine of Conton; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Laurel Lake-Port Norris Kingdom Hall, Jehovah’s Witnesses. Interment will he private in Fordville Memorial Hall, Fordville. There will be no public viewing. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. William H. Coward, Sr., of Buckshutem Road, RD 4, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. The Cowards were married in Fairton on April 5, 1905, by Benjamin F. Sheppard. Before her marriage Mrs. Coward was Miss Genevia Jones, of Fairton. The couple has three sons and a daughter: Irving Coward, Fairton; and William H. and Edward A. Coward, both of Bridgeton and Cathrine Pierce, of RD 4.
