Wayne Joseph Bundy, Sr. 1938-1990

Wayne Joseph Bundy, Sr., the eldest of two sons born Mar. 30, 1938 to the late Joseph and Charlotte Bundy, was a quiet, easy going, family-oriented child. The love security and sense of well being that the family unit provided was the foundation of his existence. While most kids his age chose the fun and frolic of the world outside-He, happily ripped, romped and read at the playground he called home.

He was a unique person, with broad shoulders and a made up mind. The crowd did things their way and he did things his! His peers couldn't (not to say they wouldn't) pressure him and the tough guys couldn't (most of the time) incite him to attack. That is, unless you pushed him to the edge!

Wayne received his early education in the Pennsauken Township School System. He then went on to graduate from PalmyraHigh School in Palmyra, N.J. He was a good student, with a mind bent on learning any and everything.

On October 20, 1958, the young man from Morrisville (Delair), would have to temporarily sever the family ties. For on this date he would relocate to Ft. Monmouthin Northern N.J. Here he served as Radar Repairman for the U.S. Army. Then came June 29, 1961. His day of jubilee! With honorable discharge in hand, he headed back to the green, green, grass of home.

"By the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread." And Wayne knew this to be a reality. No longer sheltered by mother and dad and motivated by the needs of his own family, this mild mannered young man, began an aggressive campaign of the will. Salesman! Entrepreneur! Handyman! Gardner and Chef! These were but a few of the "Labours of Love" that he skillfully undertook. Whatever was necessary to provide for the needs of his loved ones, he did. The last of his employers, was Barlow Chevrolet in Delran, N.J. From 1978-1988 he worked as a car salesman; a profession in which he excelled.

We are admonished by the prophets of old to "remember thy creator in thy youth..." And Wayne did. As a child, he and his brother could be seen climbing the hill to the old St. Mathew's MethodistChurch. And as a young adult, under the pastorship of the late Rev. Pendleton, his name was recorded on the church roll. It was during this time period that he was led to become a teacher of the Sunday school he once attended.

Then, on April 24, 1988, in this same House of Prayer, he boldly returned to Gods throne of grace; completely surrendering his all to the person of Jesus Christ.

Born again and spirit filled, Wayne had a burning desire to worship and praise the Lord with instrument and song. And as a member of the men's choir, the latter part of his vision was manifested. However, the former (play gospel music on his saxophone), was a dream unfulfilled.

Home! Family! Doctors! Nurses! Hospitals! Pills Needles! Insulin! Blood test! Restricted diets! Bed rest! Faith! Fight! and Prayer!; would for the next thirty years become the prescription administered and refilled as needed.

December 5, 1990, 1 o'clock a.m., 1518 Velde Ave., Delair, N.J.

Petition granted! Wayne resides in heaven now; leaving behind his wife, Barbara, three sons, Wayne, Jr., Mark and Brian; four step children; Wilmer, Tony, Scott and Monica: two grandchildren; Sakeeha and Siran; brother, Bruce, Sr.; Uncle & Aunt, Daniel and Camella Bundy: two nieces, Cassandra and Naikia; a nephew, Bruce, Jr.; Great Nephew, Christopher; Great nieces; Alexandrea and Jazmine and a host of other family members and friends.

Pall Bearers -- Milton Bachelor, Gary Collins, Warren Bundy, Robert Johnson, Ronald Catlett, Marvin Schaeffer Honorary Pall Bearers -- William Griggs, Sr., Leroy McGee Interment: Monday, December 10, 1990, 12 o'clock Noon, Sunset Memorial Park, Pennsauken, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements by: Waples Funeral Home, Burlington and Camden.

Timothy Leroy Fontaine 1956-2001
Birth: Jun. 13, 1956, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jan. 28, 2001

Our beloved, Timothy Leroy Fontaine was born June 13, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Isaiah Fontaine and Theresa Tilghman Fontaine. He departed this life on Sunday, January 28, 2001.

Timmy, as his family and friends fondly called him, received his education in the Philadelphia School System. At an early age he accepted God in his life, attending Miller Memorial Baptist Church with his grandmother and was baptized at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. As a young teenager, Timmy went to work side by side with his father, brothers, uncles and cousins in the family's rigging company. Timmy remained there until he was unable to work.

Timmy loved his family and friends dearly. His zest for life will be remembered and the cherished memories of his fun-loving, kind, thoughtful and humorous personality will embellish the hearts of all who loved him. His eagerness to celebrate, special occasions or not, was radiated as he looked forward to acknowledging every birthday and holiday. You could look forward to receiving a phone call or a personal visit from him. And, if you were ever lucky enough to share in or watch his smooth steps to his favorite dance, the "Bop," then you truly experienced a treat. "No one could do it better!" His renowned flair and love for music, especially the "oldies," signatures his suave movements and crooning silhouette in appreciation of the art.

Timmy will be missed greatly by his family and friends. The cherished memories of his precious life will be heart warming to reminisce from time to time. In acceptance to the word of God, thine will be done.

Timmy leaves to mourn: his children, Timothy Jr., Theresa, Brian [Bryant], Sylvia and Frances; two step-children, Tosha and Robert; five grandchildren, Toshine, Shashae, Lamont Jr., Kanaya and Kadijah; and one grandchild due in June 2001; four brothers, Isaiah, Philip, Michael and Clarence; five sisters, Arnetta, Cassandra, Sallie, Cynthia and Berneice; one daughter-in-law, Kadijah; two brothers-in-law, William and Nathaniel; three sisters-in-law, Amelia, Sandra and Tracey, the wife of his brother, the late Antonio Fontaine; his beloved companion, Ms. Grace Briggs, nine aunts, four uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

"Some people come into our lives and quickly go, others stay for a while, leaving footprints on our hearts and we are never quite the same."

The family and friends of Timothy "Timmy" Fontaine wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who have lent a helping hand and offered words of comfort during this time. May our Lord and Savior continue to keep all of you in His tender, loving care. We also ask that you keep us in your prayers.

Thelma Davine Loatman Gonzalez 1947-2015
http://www.freitagfuneralhome.com/obit_search.asp?ID=3118

Thelma Davine Loatman Gonzalez, 67, affectionately known as "Peachie" by all who knew and loved her, departed this life on Sunday morning, September 6, 2015 at 10:08 A.M. at her home in Deltona, FL. surrounded by her loved ones.

The Biblical meaning of the number 10 is the number of perfection or completion of God's Divine Order and it is the only one of the perfect biblical numbers in which humans have a part of. Also, the number 8 symbolizes resurrection and a new beginning (Gen 21:4).

Born in Bridgeton, she was the daughter of the late David J. and Thelma Loatman (nee Ridgeway). Peachie attended the Bridgeton Public School System, which is what jump started her passion for children receiving a higher education. Peachie met her loving husband, Domingo "Cataño" Gonzalez Sr., in her teenage years, and it was love at first sight. They were married for 54 years. During her residence in Bridgeton, Thelma was employed with Major Clothing and the Cumberland Manor Nursing Home in Hopewell Township, where she was loved and well respected.

In 1996, Peachie and her husband retired to Deltona, FL. There she worked as a certified nurse's aide at Florida Memorial Hospital in Orlando, FL. Peachie took great pride in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She thoroughly enjoyed bringing people together and entertaining. She was an outstanding hostess and her door was always open to her family and friends. You would never leave Peachie's home without having a good conversation, a hot cup of coffee, and a delicious meal. She was an outstanding cook, and you always left her home feeling fully satisfied.

Besides her parents, Peachie was predeceased by 3 brothers: David Loatman Jr., Harrison Loatman and Lewis Loatman.

Along with her devoted husband, she will be sadly missed by her five children, David (Janet) Gonzalez of Fairton, Domingo (Jackie) Gonzalez Jr. of Palm Coast, FL, Thelma (Thomas) Belton of Deltona, FL, Dorothy Gonzalez-Weber of Atlanta, GA, and Tracy (James "Bo") Lilly of Deltona, FL, two sisters, Julia (Antonio) Figueroa of Lakeland, FL and Carole Kennedy of Maitland, FL, her brother, Edward Torres of Millville, three sisters-in-law, Nina Gonzalez, Elba Soto, and Olga Soto; fourteen grandchildren, Keyona (William) Walker, Ashley Gonzalez, Janae Gonzalez, Domingo Gonzalez III, Shakiria (Marvin) Jones-Moore, Taneria Jones, Davine Laster, Thomas Belton Jr., Johnathan Belton, Bria Weber, Jasmine Weber, McCastle Weber Jr., James Lilly III, and Justin Lilly; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Peachie loved life, her family, and she came to love her God. "Though we commit her flesh to this earth, her spirit has ascended to its rightful place in Heaven, with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ."

Family and friends are invited to attend a service on Saturday morning, September 12th at 10 o'clock at the Union Baptist Temple, 30 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Bridgeton with Rev. Albert Morgan officiating.

Charles Morris 1985-2004
Information provided by Ursula Morris Young, 20 May 2015

Charles Morris, son of Teresa Morris, grandson of Phyllis Ridgeway Morris, was shot on the streets of Wilmington, DE, 2004:
https://cases.justia.com/delaware/supreme-court/91020.pdf

1) Alberto M. Law appeals from his convictions, following a jury trial, of second degree murder, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and other related charges. He argues that all the convictions should be overturned because they were based on the uncorroborated testimony of his accomplice, James McDougal. In addition, Law contends that the trial court committed plain error when it instructed the jury on accomplice liability. We find no merit to these arguments, and affirm.

2) Charles Morris was shot multiple times and killed on December 8, 2004, as he was walking on the 2500 block of West Street, in Wilmington. At the time of the shooting, Solace Bradshaw happened to be sitting on the steps of her cousin’s house at the corner of West and 25th Streets talking with friends. A few minutes before the shooting, she saw three people across the street walking at a fast pace, one behind the other. Bradshaw identified the first person as Morris, and the others as McDougal, someone she knew from high school, and McDougal’s friend, who she did not know. About five minutes after seeing the three young men, Bradshaw heard two gun shots. She ducked, then got up and saw McDougal running around the corner. The person running behind McDougal was tucking a gun in his pants.

3) Detective Andrew Brock, of the Wilmington Police Department, interviewed Bradshaw within hours of the shooting. Based on her statement, the police brought McDougal into custody a few days later. McDougal implicated Law, his next door neighbor. After McDougal pled guilty to second degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, he testified against Law. McDougal said that Law suggested that they rob someone, and that Law had a gun with him. They spotted Morris walking by and decided to follow him. According to McDougal, Law grabbed Morris from behind and started wrestling. Law got free and shot Morris twice. McDougal then ran down 25th Street.

4) At trial, Law gave a different account of the crimes. He admitted that he was the one who had the idea to rob someone, but testified that McDougal was the person who had a gun and who shot Morris. Law also said that he was the first person running down the street after the shooting. There was some support for Law’s version from the fact that McDougal had been arrested for carrying a concealed deadly weapon approximately two months before the shooting. The State raised questions about Law’s credibility, however, by getting him to admit that he gave two false stories to the police during his initial questioning.

5) Without citing any authorities, Law first argues that there was insufficient evidence to support his convictions. He says that McDougal’s testimony was totally self-serving and that the only other witness, Bradshaw, did not actually see the shooting and had a grudge against Law.

6) There is sufficient evidence to support a conviction if, viewing the evidence in the light most favorable to the State, a rational juror could find all of the elements of the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. It is the jury’s function to resolve conflicts in the testimony and assess witness credibility; and the conviction may be based on the uncorroborated testimony of an accomplice. Applying this settled law, we conclude that there was sufficient evidence to support Law’s convictions. McDougal gave a full account of the crimes and, although he had reason to implicate Law, his testimony was largely corroborated by Bradshaw’s less biased observations.

7) Law next argues, again without authority, that the trial court erred in giving an instruction on accomplice liability. After reviewing the trial court’s jury instructions, we are satisfied that the court correctly instructed the jury. The trial court specifically instructed the jury that it could not find Law guilty as an accomplice on the murder charge or the weapons charge associated with that felony. The only counts for which Law could be found guilty as an accomplice were those charging him with felony murder, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of each of those felonies.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED that the judgments of the Superior Court be, and the same hereby are, AFFIRMED.

Earl Paul Street Sr. 1927-2015
July 6, 1927 - August 21, 2015

Earl Paul Street Sr. was born July 6, 1927, at Millsboro, DE, son of the late Fannie Harmon, in Millsboro, Delaware. Earl (Pop) attended the Nanticoke Grade School up to the eighth grade. He grew up "a farm boy" raising chickens and other livestock.

He tended the fields of their 280+acre farm growing corn and other crops. He had a passion for driving. Its been said he wanted to get out of the country, never to wear dungarees again, move to the big city, sport a fresh white shirt and tie every day, and drive. As a young man, he moved to Philadelphia to pursue his dream. He started out driving Big Rigs, but at the time, he found them mechanically unsafe. In the late 1940s to 1962, he was a chauffeur and security for The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. There are many stories of him driving throughout the country, including the turbulent Jim Crow South. During his time with the church, he met and married Lucy E. Martinas. Due to an illness of one their son's, he left that job to be close to home. He then took a job driving for the old Yellow Cab Co. Several years later, he began his career, driving school buses for the School District of Philadelphia where he retired in 1991.

Pop was a member of the Nanticoke Indian Tribe of Millsboro Delaware. He may have left the country but never lost his love for country music. He would take his family to concerts of the old country greats including Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Glenn Campbell and many others. His love for driving provided many long road trips and quality time for the family. He fooled around with the Guitar for years, but his main interest was his family for which he was the sole provider and was always there.

Pop peacefully passed away in his sleep Friday, August 21, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty-three years, Lucy E. Street; his three sons, Earl P. Street Jr. (wife Arna), Joseph B. Street Sr. and John A. Street; one daughter, Anna L. Mitchell; six grandchildren, Joseph B. Street Jr., Mark E. Mitchell Jr., Marcus E. Mitchell, Markeith E. Mitchell, Mario E. Mitchell, Marco E. Mitchell; two brothers, Garner Street and Larry Wright; four sisters, Alberta Morris, Rose Street of Millsboro, PA, Kathleen Wright of Milton, DE and Linda Wright of San Francisco, CA; one brother-in-law, Isaac Martinas.

Pop was 88 years old. Service was private.

James Howard Street, Sr. 1907-1989
Notes:
Birth: Dec. 10, 1907, Millsboro, DE; Death: Nov. 27, 1989 Pennsylvania
By Jim Nicholson, Philadelphia Daily News, 30 Nov 1989

James H. Street, Sr., who was never further away from anyone in need than a phone call or knock on the door, died Monday. He was 81 and lived in the city's Mount Airy section.

Street, father of City Councilman John Street and former state Sen. Milton Street, spent most of his life on other people--his family, church, community organizations, friends and neighbors.

A member of Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church since the early 1930s, Jim Street was "First Elder," which indicates being assistant to the pastor. Church elder Ervin Glenn, a longtime friend, said: "He had a real love and concern for people. Among our own group, any of the widows or elderly people who needed someone to take them shopping, he was always the one they would call. His greatest love was assisting people. That was where he found his greatest joy and greatest interest. Being involved with people. That's what he liked to do, and that's what he did."

An office assistant and driver for the E. J. Levino Co. in Plymouth Meeting for 38 years, he also drove a van for the blind. Whatever was in his voice inspired trust, because he was often called upon by his blind charges to help them with personal business, including balancing checkbooks. He also was a volunteer ambulance driver for the 50th Ward almost until the day he died. Two years ago the church gave him a testimonial dinner to honor his contributions.

"He was not an eloquent man," recalled Glenn, "but he could say what needed to be said. And he could say it in a way that you would understand and appreciate."

Years ago he sold books for the church as a "literature evangelist." Enough people bought books and liked what he had to say that several churches were formed from the people he brought into the fold.

"We all depended on him within our church family," Glenn said. "Whenever we needed something or needed advice or needed something to be done, he was the man we looked to. Whenever any member was sick, they could always expect a visit from him. Whenever there was a death, he was there to see that everything was done that needed to be done and to offer comfort and solace to the family. He did it, and he did it well. It's a real loss to us not to have him there."

The Street family drew no less attention. There was never any doubt about who was "The Father" of the Street household.

"He was from the old school," said his son, John. "You had to be in by a certain time, and you didn't have too much to say past a certain point. He believed in the old adage, 'Spare the rod and spoil the child.' There was respect. Adults weren't called by their first name, food couldn't be accepted outside the home without his permission, and so on."

The Street children were raised on a 110-acre farm in Swedeland, between Conshohocken and Bridgeport. After working all day at his regular job, Jim Street came home and worked in the fields. He raised wheat, corn and vegetables, and before going to school the boys had cows to milk. By age 11 John was driving the tractor. But in 1956 there was a lot of blasting at nearby rock quarries, and for reasons still unclear, the wells on the Street farm went dry. They had to move to the city.

Raised in Millsboro, Del., with nine brothers and sisters, Jim Street came to Philadelphia at age 13 to find a job and a short time later was doing a man's work. In 38 years with Levino Co., he missed maybe two days work. When his kids asked why he left for work an hour early for a 15-minute drive, he'd reply, "Just in case I have a flat."

"He would work, no matter what kind of work, or how bad the pay," said John. At 5-foot-8 and a powerful 225 pounds, Street was past 80 and still hefting large crates of vegetables into his car--foodstuffs he had bought wholesale for people.

He was proud that all three of his boys went to college. Son James became a certified public accountant and an auditor supervisor for the federal government. "He always encouraged us to do the best we could," said John. "He was particularly proud of Milton's election to the Senate and my graduating law school."

Jim Street had three general concerns for his children that remained unchanged to the end, said John: "First, that we didn't get hurt physically; second, that we weren't involved in anything illegal because that would hurt him real bad; and third, that our involvement in politics was a form of community service."

He also remained a man of strong opinions and didn't hesitate to share them with his family. He thought someone should have been prosecuted for the MOVE bombing and deaths. It outraged him. He felt that the plight of homeless people was the responsibility of community organizations and not government agencies. And the drug problem touched him to the core.

"He had this passion for the young people in this drug thing," said John. "It just ate him up. He believed that the responsibility was the parent. He couldn't understand how these kids could be out there. He always wanted to know, 'Where are their parents?' If you were living under his roof, he knew where you were."

John said his father "never had money, never worried about it, and what he had he was always giving away." Neither did he spend time on himself. Aside from listening to his favorites on the radio, Irv Homer and Mary Mason, he spent most of his time on others, especially after his wife of 46 years, the former Elizabeth Willis, died in 1981.

John Street said some people ask him why he didn't get out of politics and go for big money in a private law practice. He said, "What happens is, I learned to value some other things by way of his example. Here was a person who in his own way sacrificed more time trying to be of service to other people, than constitutes some people's lifetimes...60 years at a minimum. He was a person who was available and on call day and night."

He said, "I don't think most of us are aware of the subtle influence [of parents]. We end up being like them."

John Street thinks about that sometimes when someone asks him why he arrived at the office early.

In addition to his sons, he is survived by a brother, a sister, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church, 15th and Christian streets, where friends may call between 5 and 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in White Chapel Gardens, 140 W. Street Road, Feasterville, Bucks County.

Mary Elizabeth Jackson Ward 1921-2011

1. Published in The Bridgeton News on February 18, 2011

Mary Elizabeth Jackson Ward, 89, of Upper Deerfield Township went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011. She peacefully passed at her home following a 10-year period of declining health.

A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Mary was born and raised locally by her late parents, Daniel Jackson and Elizabeth Harmon Jackson. She was the wife of the late Douglas P. Ward.

A 1941 graduate of Bridgeton High School, her working years included employment at the former Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton for 27 years, a Bridgeton Postal worker for 21 years and an elementary school substitute teacher in Upper Deerfield Township.

Mary was an active member of the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church and served in various ministries, most often found contributing to missionary outreach programs. She was also a member of the Young Peoples Progressive Club and the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club. Serving as a leader and participant of many community and social functions, she was always eager to champion a cause or lend a helping hand.

A proud member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of Bridgeton where she was known as "Spreading Eagle Wing," for nearly 10 years she organized and coordinated the Elders monthly luncheon program providing them with an afternoon of Cultural Socialization. She also worked diligently toward the goal of establishing a Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Cultural Museum and fervently pursued her passion to see procurement of Tribal Land. In recognition of her service and dedication to the Tribal Community for over 25 years, Mary was the recipient of their highest honor, an Eagle Feather.

She enjoyed traveling and collecting memorabilia, often reflecting on her travels to the Holy Land. As an avid "scrap booker," Mary spent countless hours meticulously cataloging volumes of pictures and experiences of her loved ones. Mary loved her home and her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Constance Brooks and husband, Larry and Paula Streets and husband Charles, all of Bridgeton; a granddaughter, Charisma Ward of Annapolis, Md.; two grandsons, Charles Streets Jr. of Wilmington, Del., and Brad Streets of Roselle Park; a niece, Charlotte Carney of Elmer and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Holly Ward; two sisters, Helen Saunders Ward and Viola Jackson Durham; four brothers, John, Fred, Wilbert and Daniel Jackson; a niece, Elsie Pierce; and a nephew, Hollie Saunders.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in MaryÕs memory be made to the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians, 18 East Commerce St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302. Written condolences may be sent to the family through the funeral home website at www.padgettfuneralhome.com.

2. Mary Ward, "Spreading Eagle Wing"
Smoke Signals column, Cumberland County Reminder

Aunt Mary, as she is fondly referred to, has been an inspiration to all tribal members throughout the last twenty-five years. She has been a real force in the Native American movement for the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Tribe. She had dedicated much of her own time and money in support of her tribe. Her drive and perseverance has inspired us all. Many times in the past during our struggles to maintain our center and move forward as a tribe it has been Aunt Mary who has provided the motivation we needed to get going. We believe that her most memorable project was her "dirt" project, as she called it. She sent every member a little bag of "dirt" that came from the land we wanted to purchase. With that project we were able to purchase that land.

Aunt Mary's love and concern for the elders of the tribe led her to organize an Elders Luncheon Program where once a month our elders were able to come together for an afternoon of socializing. Even where there were no funds to support the cost of the luncheon, she continued to fund the program with her own money because she knew how much it meant to our elders.

Personal illness has prevented Aunt Mary from being as physically active now, but she continues to work for our tribe by sending letters to conduct her projects. She recently raised over $2,000 from a project she did through correspondence from her home.

We are pleased to be able to honor her. As we give honor, we want her to know that throughout the years her dedication to the progress fo our tribe has been appreciated. We want her to know that we will continue to look to her for her wisdom and energy and ask that she continue to pray for our progress. Most of all, we want her to know that she is loved by her tribe.
