I have joined this newsgroup (Mitsawokett), because I am researching the ancestry of a first cousin of mine whose ancestral Sussex County surnames are Hall, Hanzer, Harmon, Johnson and Street. His father and my mother were siblings; his mother was born in Hollyville.

Here's how it all began..... My grandmother's sister Annie Rattley graduated from the Howard University School of Teaching in 1916. Shortly thereafter she assumed a teaching position at Hollyville School which she held for one year. During that time she rented a room in the home of Charles and Isabelle Morris. Her living arrangement was comparable to a Bed & Breakfast.

During my great-aunt's stay at the Morris home she wrote to my grandmother telling her how much she loved Delaware and implored her to bring her whole family for the summer. So began my family's yearly visits to Delaware. My mother Helen Jones who was born in 1922 made her first appearance in Delaware in her mother's arms.

My mother, her siblings, her grandparents and my great-aunt affectionately referred to the Morrises as "Aunt Belle and Uncle Charlie". My grandparents and their children spent two weeks each summer with the Morrises until one of them passed away. My late mother has always had fond memories of Delaware. Had it not been for those visits, I would never have had the opportunity to have a descendant of the Streets, Halls, Harmons etc. as my favorite aunt.
