From John C. Carter <spacemanspiff@tampabay.rr.com> Dec 12, 2015, modified somewhat:

RJT: "...perhaps Maria's daughter Louisa is mother of Stephen & Hersal?”

Indeed! Interesting possibility. And not just mother of Stephen & Hersal, but perhaps of Lydia & Rebecca, too. That would explain them not being listed in Maria’s probate.

Warren & Maria's daughter, Maria Louisa Wright, #13 below on this page, is the Louisa mentioned in the 1880 census. She died 1885/1886 and she clearly had children because her headstone reads “Our Mother”:

Regarding Lydia, Rebecca, Stephen & Hersal Wright -- the next step would be to try to find their death certificates to see who is listed for their parents….

Stephen – no parents listed, death cert.

Hersal who lived at least past the 1880 census. Didn’t find a Hersal/Hersel, but I found a “Hurcie” and he’s the right approximate age, and he died in 1884 in Philadelphia, and although his mother wasn’t Louisa, look who his mother is: Hester Drain, probably the Hester “Hetty” Wright who married John Drain who is #17 on the report below—in other words, this Hester is probably Warren Wright & Maria Sockum’s daughter, and thus Hersal/Hersal/Hurcie would be another grandchild of Maria. Hurcie’s death certificate said his father was “deceased.” So…do we have a John Drain who died before Hurcie? Boom, here is John. No proof that he was the husband of Hester/Hetty, but his age is in the right ballpark. He may not have been Hurcie’s father, however, since Hurcie went by the last name of Wright instead of Drain. So, this scenario only works if the mother’s name on Hurcie’s death certificate was her married name rather than her maiden name. But if so, Hurcie may have been an out-of-wedlock son of Hester/Hetty’s before she married John Drain.

As for Lydia & Rebecca, we would have to figure out what their (presumed) married names at death would have been, in order to look at their death certificates.

Anyway, I think we’re on the right track. Those 4 children were just too young to be Maria Sockum Wright’s children, and it explains them not being listed in her probate.
