Author writes what he hopes is final chapter on Gloucester County, New Jersey, residents killed in Vietnam

John “Soup” Campbell, the Vietnam veteran who wrote the definitive book about the Gloucester County residents who died in the war no one wanted, has finished his 44th chapter — right on schedule for Memorial Day.

Chapter 44 of “They Were Ours, Gloucester County’s Loss in Vietnam,” is a profile of Marine Pfc. Tony Howard Hughes, 20, who was killed on April 16, 1966, while on a volunteer mission at Quang Nam Province South Vietnam.
